He gave a strained chuckle. “Believe me, pet, I want nothing more than to be the first man inside you.” He twisted her hair around his fingers. “But you would regret it.”

“No, I wouldn’t.”

“Tomorrow, when you woke, you would realise that without the lure of your virginity, the Poplarins would be unwilling to accept you after being with a vampire. It would take weeks, perhaps months of building rapport before you could rise to lead them. And while you are more than capable, we do not have that kind of time. We were meant to have a year to prepare, but instead we have only a matter of weeks before my coronation.”

“I don’t care, I want you.” She rocked her hips over his groin, stroking his erection, which had refused to soften more than a little and was rapidly approaching full mast again.

Nathaniel gritted his teeth as she ground against his damp trousers, tempting him with what he could not have, all with a cheeky smile and a devious glint in her eyes.

“Fuck, pet.” His grip tightened in her hair and he pulled her down so she was lying on top of him. He kissed her, long and hard, urging her to feel how much he wanted her. “You make it so hard to resist.”

“Resist what?” she asked through sultry, slow-batting eyelashes. Kira gave him a mock pout, her full lips parting invitingly.

Under different circumstances, he would have liked to part those lips even further, making them wrap around his cock and milk every last drop of cum from him.

“Do not play with me,” he warned, pushing his hips up so she felt his thick erection press into her thigh. “If I took you now, I would take my time. It would be slow. Sweet. But make no mistake, it would not be gentle, and you would be completely and irrevocably mine.”

Nathaniel’s voice shook with intensity, his body wound tightly as it threatened to come undone. Kira was soft everywhere he was hard, and he wanted to press and squeeze every curve, to bury his face in her plump breasts and bury his cock in her wet heat. He wanted to make her moan and steal her every breath. And when she knelt for him, she would be doing it for him, and not because she was training to serve his father.

That last thought was like an icy fracture of his heart, creating a hairline fracture that travelled all around, weakening his resolve. He ran his tongue over his aching fangs and pushed his hand into her hair. “Do you have any idea how much I want to tear your clothes off and take you?”

Kira’s eyes had widened in shock, but then her eyelids drifted down halfway, and she peered at him through her eyelashes again. “Then why don’t you?”

Fuck.

He leapt at her, capturing her mouth and coaxing it open, and when she offered her tongue, he brushed it with his, eliciting deep pangs of want and need in his groin. His abs flexed as his desire rose, mounting until he was a breath away from losing control. He cupped her face, staring at her like a man possessed.

“Tell me you don’t care about the plan,” he rasped. “Tell me you don’t care about uniting our people. Tell me you don’t care about becoming our ruler and bringing justice to the world.” He locked eyes with her, his restraint thinning as his throbbing cock strained against his pants. “Tell me you don’t want those things, Kira, and I will deflower you right now and plough you into oblivion until you scream my name. And when you are too tired, I will take you again, and I won’t stop until every inch of you is lathered in my cum and the only name you know is mine. Tell me.”

She stared at him with her mouth agape.

Nathaniel tried to calm himself, but the growl of his voice betrayed his jealousy as he said, “Tell me you don’t want Mark.”

“I don’t,” she mumbled, but she dropped her gaze, and it made his heart ache.

The thought of Mark touching Kira, of his undeserving cock filling and scenting her with his cum, filled him with rage.

“Did you hear me?” Kira whispered. “I said I don’t.”

“I don’t believe you.”

She lifted her chin, fire flickering to life in her eyes. “Tell me you won’t marry Gloria.”

Nathaniel winced. Kira was asking him to give up becoming the king. But as he beheld her determined gaze, he knew he stood to lose something far more precious than a crown. “I won’t marry Gloria.”

Kira’s eyes widened. “You really mean that?”

“Yes. On one condition.” He held Kira tight, and he rested his head on her shoulder, because he was too afraid to see her face when she answered his next question. “I will not marry her…if you tell me that you don’t want Mark.”

Kira hesitated, and it was enough to cause the crack lines around his heart to run deeper. He buried his face in her hair, shutting his eyes as he tried to compose himself, fighting the urge to try and compel her to choose him.

Choose me.

“I love you,” she said, the precious words filtering into his life like sunlight. “But…”

“But?”

“We have responsibilities.” She pulled back, shaking her head in frustration. “This is your plan. You started this. And I agreed to be a part of it. Why are you making this so hard?”
