"You can't—"

"And I want to raise one more point."

"I'm afraid of what that might be."

She pulled back far enough to see his face. "I don't need to put weight on my leg to have sex. Not to mention there are other things we could be doing." She kissed him, slipping her tongue between his lips, occupying his mouth, not giving him a chance to say a single word.

He threaded his fingers through her hair, tugging gently as he deepened the kiss.

She got the top three buttons the honest way but quit being patient with the rest. One of the buttons pinged off the far wall. She shoved the shirt back off his shoulders, and he got himself out of it before throwing it somewhere behind him.

He slid his hand under the hem of her shirt, shimmied it up her stomach, and then pried his lips from hers before tossing the article of clothing across the room. He cupped her bare breast for a second before fanning his thumb over her nipple.

She arched, shifted her leg, and groaned.

"Shit," he mumbled. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. And we're not—"

Knock. Knock.

"Wynn? Darwin?" Neve called.

Darwin pulled the blanket over her body. "What's up?"

"We need everyone in the war room," Neve said. "Both of you. Ten minutes. It's important."

"We'll be there." He dropped his forehead to Wynn's shoulder. "Probably for the best."

"If it wasn't going to be the first time, I'd say ten minutes might work."

He laughed. "That would never be enough time, just saying."

"Oh, you’re in so much trouble tonight." God, she hoped her thigh could handle it.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Darwin backed the wheelchair through the door into the war room and at the same time double-checked the buttons on his clean shirt. Wynn had buttoned them, and while that was generally an easy task, she’d been preoccupied by flirting, kissing, and finding ways to distract him for a full ten minutes.

Nearly worked, too.

"Sorry to disturb your…rest." Quinn stood near the front of the room. He was in uniform, which always made Darwin nervous. He liked Quinn, he really did. He was a good cop. Anyone could see that Quinn wasn’t the kind of man who risked his badge, and yet, he did it every day for this team.

For Darwin.

"I look better rested than you," Darwin said. "And from the looks of it, I managed to put on a clean shirt. More than I can say for you."

"So many things I want to say to that." Quinn laughed. "But if I do, I know Wynn will have a dozen more retorts, and it's too early to spar with her."

"I feel so neglected." Wynn took the coffee mug Zadie handed her.

"I'm sure Darwin here is giving you lots of attention." Quinn raised his mug.

"I'm her doctor." Darwin eased the wheelchair further into the room. "It's literally my job."

Kane stood at the far end of the table with the cane hooked over the edge and his weight stacked on his good side. He'd showered, changed his clothes, and other than a few scratches, it was hard to tell he'd nearly been blown up.

Everyone else was already settled and fiddling with their mugs. That was never a good sign.
