“Sit. Stay. Good girl, right?” I cross my arms.

He sighs. “I’m watching Pinky to keep him alive. I have no need to sit or sleep. I need to stay alert. So you might as well stop fighting me and take a nap. You have your pager. No one will miss you for an hour as you get some much-needed rest. I won’t even bring it up ever again. Scout’s honor.”

“Were you even a scout?”

He laughs. “Actually, I was. With my brother. Now get some rest.”

“What if I can’t sleep with you here?” I can’t help but goad him.

“Then I’ll step outside and watch the door. Stop being a brat and sit.”

I look at the chair, then back to him. I hate to give in, but my feet are killing me and my headache is getting worse. Dr. Pembrooke will likely not leave tonight. I think his goal is to force my hand so I have to spend time with him. No one would think to check for me in a patient room. Well, no one but Travis. Maybe Beverly since she saw me come in here.

What’s one little nap going to hurt?

“This is not me giving in to your demands. It’s me taking a much-needed nap.”

I sit in the chair, leaning it back before I curl up in it. Hades moves, making me tense. Then he hands me the small pillow that was at the end of Pinky’s bed. I grab it, tucking it under my head. When he spreads out the blanket, I hate how cared for it makes me feel.

I hate this asshole, yet for a moment, he’s not so bad.

When the lights flick off, leaving only the ambient lights on in the room, I find myself drifting off into a peaceful sleep.

CHAPTER FOUR

Hades

Reaper bangs the gavel, bringing the meeting to life.

“All right, before we get started, I have a quick update on Pinky. He is home and resting,” Reaper says, making the men cheer.

I shift in my chair, the one that was pulled up to the table for me. It feels weird to be sitting here, but none of the brothers bat an eye.

“That’s awesome. Hopefully Sunny is taking good care of him,” Colt says.

“One can only hope,” Honk mutters.

“Is she doing okay?” Wrath asks.

Reaper nods. “She isn’t drinking. Lainey stayed with her last night to be sure she has support. She’s taking sobriety seriously.”

His eyes move toward Honk, who isn’t looking at any of us.

Having just gotten sober himself, we worry about what might push him back over the edge. When no one says anything, Reaper continues.

“Okay, let’s kick this off. Who wants to start?”

“I will, although it’s not great news,” Trigger says.

“What’s up?” Midnight asks.

“Atticus called, said he was on his way down to the police station. Apparently Muscles was pulled over for his brake lights not working. Instead of just giving him a ticket, they dragged him down to the police station.” Trigger shakes his head.

“I’m sorry, but who’s Atticus?” I ask.

I know Muscles is one of the club brothers, but I have no idea who this Atticus is.

“Atticus is the club lawyer. Mr. Hale,” Trigger says.
