“The dockmaster at Pleasure Harbor. I’ve known him for years.”

“Then we go to Chub Cay,” Mark said. “If Morris suspects what’s up, he knows who you know.”

Tru was already punching in coordinates. “We’re going to need you and Marnie to stay belowdecks when we get there, just in case.”

“You too, I suspect. Chances are, people have a pretty good idea what you look like,” Mark told her.

“I’m going to check in on Marnie,” Lightman announced as he headed into the lower cabin.

“You didn’t have to come with us,” Tru told Mark.

“I know. I have concerns—to put it mildly.”

“Letting Morris win is worse,” she pointed out.

“You don’t have to convince me.”

“I’m glad you’re here,” Tru added. “All because of a $500 grant you were too honest to accept. The irony.”

“I was hoping you’d give me more for the youth league. Which you did,” Mark said.

“Either way, we’ll have to thank whoever sent it.”

“You really didn’t?”

“Nope. And like I said, it wasn’t Max or Marnie,” she replied.

“Morris, maybe? Lure me in, only to get me killed in Haiti?” He shrugged.

“It’s one of those mysteries, I guess.”

Maybe, thought Mark. Or maybe someone else had a plan.

A thought struck him.

He pulled out Kevin’s phone and entered a code.

“Something happen?” Tru asked.

Mark showed her the unlocked screen.

“I solved it!” he said, his cry muffled by the roar of the engines.

“Kevin liked names. Was it a name?” Tru asked.

“Yes,” Mark replied.

“Whose?”

“Mine.”

Unlock

Mark emerged from the cabin to the upper deck, where Max and Marnie were keeping an eye on the ocean as Tru piloted the boat.

He’d spent the last twenty minutes going through Kevin’s text messages and notepad, trying to make sense of everything.

There was no message from Kevin to him that he could find.
