With a sigh, Carly explained how she had lost her baking mojo.

“I see,” he said. “That’s why your friends were suggesting you have some fun and try to get in a better headspace when I walked in.”

“Yeah. They seem to think it would work.”

Wade thought about it for a moment. “I concur. Honey, even though you’re in Mountainville, you’re still fighting those Little tendencies. Deep down. Because you believe your Little nature ruined things back in Valley Spring. You’re in a funk and that’s understandable. But Daddy’s here now. And I’m going to help you—along with your new friends—get out of it. You can try the cupcakes again tomorrow.”

Carly started to slide off the island. “I have to get busy. Seriously. The big Halloween party is—”

“Little girl, are you arguing with Daddy?”

She stood straighter and gulped.

“I’m sorry, sir.”

“Not half as sorry as you’ll be if I take this belt off, pull your diaper down, and bend you over that counter there to spank your bare bottom.”

He wasn’t sure if she’d take it seriously, but he was prepared to make a believer out of her.

Thankfully, it didn’t come to that.

“Yes, sir. I’m sorry.”

“Good girl. You’re going to have some fun tonight and in the morning. Then, I’ll let you try the cupcakes again. Now, come on. I’ll help you clean up.”

“Yes, sir,” she said again.

And with that, they got to the chore, with Wade feeling beyond happy that he’d found his babygirl and that she was safe and with him now.

Forever.

Chapter Nineteen

“Everyone, meet Wade. He’s my Daddy!”

Carly was overjoyed as she made the introduction, and her friends seemed just as excited as she was.

“That’s wonderful!” Katie said while hugging her. Then, looking at Wade, she said, “Nice to meet you and welcome to Mountainville. I’m Katie.”

“Thank you,” Wade said. “And good to know you, Katie.”

“Yeah, glad you’re here,” Eli said. “I’m Eli, the mayor and all-around troublemaker around these parts. We’re truly glad to have you visiting our town.”

Carly looked at Wade to see him smiling. “It’s not every day someone gets welcomed to town by the mayor,” he said. “I’m much obliged.”

“I’m Stella. Pleased to meet you. We’ve heard a lot about you already.”

Carly blushed as Wade shot her a knowing smirk.

“Nice to meet you, Stella.”

They all looked at the haunted house that stood before them. Back at the community center, the Littles had received texts from Harrison and Stryker, stating it was ready. So, Carly had texted her friends, telling them she and Daddy would just meet them there.

Now, as the spooky, ominous mansion towered over her, she was excited yet scared.

But Carly had been told enough to know that the appearance was only a façade. The real building, she’d heard, was behind there and was a cavernous warehouse type structure.

Creepy noises such as chains rattling and items breaking joined an eerie cackle emitting from the place.
