“There’s a problem I need to help fix.”

“Of course, there is.”

At the annoyance in her voice, he fought not to sigh. “Molly’s a pretty resourceful co-worker. If she could have resolved the issue herself, she would have done.”

Cora grimaced. “I’m not so sure.”

If the magic detecting machines had broken down, he didn’t have time to waste. Cora, though, was no doubt as disappointed in having to postpone their kiss as he was. He didn’t want to come across as insensitive to her desires. “Don’t worry. We’ll see each other again soon.”

Beaming, she nodded. “The holiday parade is tonight. You can be our Santa on the historical society float.”

“Tonight?”

“Why not? Fred doesn’t care if you wear the costume.”

Santa had, indeed, said such—and Lucian couldn’t remember having any plans for that evening. “Still—”

“Please, Lucian. Will you be on the float? For me?” Cora touched his arm. “Please?”

She looked at him so beguilingly, he simply couldn’t say no. “I will.”

“Thank you, although I do wish you’d had time to try the costume on.” She sighed wistfully. “I’d like to know that it fits you properly.”

Judging by her tone, she was going to suggest he quickly put it on. The problem at the store, though, couldn’t wait. “I really need to get to Black Cat Antiquities. Is it convenient for you to drive me there, or should I call an Uber?”

“No, no, I’ll drive you.” She locked the door to the deck. “I wonder what Fred’s going to think, seeing you wearing his old costume tonight?”

“Fred will be at the parade?”

“He’ll be on the Coquina Castle float.”

Lucian hadn’t realized Fred would be at the event.

No matter.

He couldn’t resist a sly grin. If all went as he hoped that night, Fred’s attendance would suit his ambitions perfectly.
