More cheering.
Santa glared. “Cora’s using you to drum up donations for the historical society, isn’t she?”
“No,” Lucian snapped. His Fair Maiden cared about him. She believed in him. That was why she’d asked him to accept the honor of portraying Santa.
And yet, even as the thought entered his mind, part of him whispered those reasons weren’t true. An image of Molly materialized in his mind again.
Molly cared about him. Molly believed in him…always.
He shook his head, willing the thoughts away.
“I get it,” Old Saint Nick shouted. “You want people to choose their favorite Santa in town; to donate to that organization.” His expression pained, he aimed his sword at Lucian. “I might not be as young as you, or as good looking, but Coquina Castle needs donations too.”
More cheering.
“So,” Lucian roared. “At last, we will fight—”
“Lucian.”
He stilled at Cora’s voice and the sound of footsteps, not far behind him.
“This is all your doing.” Old Saint Nick flicked his sword toward Cora.
“Look at what you two are doing.” She gestured to the onlookers. Surprise etched her features. “The crowd loves you.”
Loves you.
The words flickered in Lucian’s mind. Again, he saw Molly.
What the hell?
No. He would not be swayed from his quest.
He took a step forward. “We’re going to settle this matter, Santa. Now.”
