“This pro-boxer ain’t no stray, either, but he sure needs our help right now.”

These Stallions sound like good people.

Being carried to the truck, I dared to look over to where another Stallion, Justice, had landed. Her lifeless body was no longer on the ground. It was cradled in Giver’s arms. I was expecting tears to be falling from his eyes, since his woman had clearly passed, but there were none. He was motionless… With a deep set of menacing green eyes, he stared at me as if he wished for me to rot in Hell. Twice.

I understood.

Because they tried to save me, Justice was now dead.

If I hadn’t been dying myself, guilt would’ve consumed me.

Supporting one of my shoulders, Torque glanced at Giver, then said, “Dick, behave.”

As I was carefully laid in the back of a truck, my mind showed me Giver’s green eyes again… Drifting from consciousness, my mind took me back to my wife and my high school. It was like my spirit was floating down the hallway, past lockers and classrooms, to where a special picture frame stood in a glass case to honor a student who had died.

No. It couldn’t be.

A student my wife knew well.

No! It’s not possible!

A student she tried to forget because of a horrendous past she refused to speak of.

No fucking way!

My heart wanted to pound with fear for my wife but couldn’t. I was dying.

Delilah… Kenny is alive.
