I hesitate, then give in. “You do realize I’m the size of a turkey and waddle like a duck, right?”
He lets out a full-bellied laugh. “You can stand on my feet, Elenochka. For old times’ sake.” His words remind me of the time I danced on his feet, walking boot and all.
“Where will Ivan go?” I ask, grabbing his hands.
He adjusts me so I’m sideways against him, my head resting on his chest. “Like this,” he says softly.
“But there’s no music,” I point out.
He smiles down at me. “From what I recall, we don’t need music.”
So we sway, the thump of Nik’s heartbeat echoing in my ears. He holds me close, planting gentle kisses atop my head, whispering how much he loves me.
I finally cave. “Ivan Ozias is a good name,” I voice, trying to keep my tone even.
Nik tilts my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze. “Oh, is it now?” he teases.
I keep my expression neutral, shrugging. “We can name him that. I think it’s sweet—God is gracious and strong. It’s a good name for him.”
Nik chuckles and cups my face, sealing his lips to mine. “You, my darling Elenochka, have excellent taste,” he whispers, pulling back just enough to smile at me before kissing me again.
We stay that way long into the night, whispering our thoughts to one another, completely absorbed in each other.
I can’t imagine a better way to live this life.
