“It’s the oddest thing,” said Minerva. “They were both stalled on the road. Robert’s horse went lame, and the baron’s wagon lost a wheel. I found them and just directed them back here.”

“It was Father,” whispered Lillith. “I know it was him. He helped me, just like I knew he would.”

“So, do you believe in our ways now, my daughter-by-marriage?” asked Minerva.

“I must say, I’m starting to think that I feared something only because I knew nothing about it,” Lillith told her. “But I know more now. I’m changing and more than willing to learn everything I can.”

“And I can’t wait to teach you,” Minerva answered.

“Me too,” said Blaze, giving her a sultry look, speaking about something different entirely.

Blaze’s raven flew in an open window and swooped down over their heads, scaring the cat. Sam bounded out of Minerva’s arms and jumped onto the trestle table, running from the bird.

“I’d better go take care of this. Excuse me,” said Minerva, leaving.

“Blaze. I mean, Husband,” said Lillith, as Blaze kissed her head and then her neck, not caring who was watching.

“What is it, Lilly Bee? Did you want me to stop?”

“Stop? Nay. Never,” she said with a giggle. “I was just wondering. Don’t you think it is odd that with all we went through that we’d end up together, happy and married? I really think my father had something to do with this from the grave.”

“Mayhap,” he said, still kissing her. “But what does it matter? We’re together, married, and I’m a knight. And the best part is that we will no longer be two lost souls searching for what we thought we would never have.”

“True,” said Lillith. “But I still feel a little odd. Like even though my father helped us, I don’t want to be haunted by a spirit.”

“You won’t,” he told her. “Lilly, all that stuff about ghosts and being haunted is really just stories to scare people I think. None of it can actually hurt us.”

“You’re right,” she answered, feeling the weight of the world off her shoulders now. “No longer will we have to live like strangers in the night. Now, we will wake up every morning in love in each other’s arms.”

“That’s right,” agreed Blaze. “We can finally put behind all our trials, tribulations, and especially our Haunted Hearts.”
