“Wouldn’t have it any other way. Call me when you both reach a decision.”
“Bet.”
He hung up and I slipped my phone back into my pocket. Weighted thoughts filled my brain. I didn’t have to ask what the invite was for. I knew it was an invitation to a table of resources that reached far past where the water ended, but did we need all of that? We had done just fine being unconnected to the rest of Briar South.
“Are you alright?” Her voice made me look up from the grill. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn’t notice Syn walking up on me until she was right next to me.
I pushed the invitation to the back of my head. “Yeah, why do you ask?”
“Because whatever that phone call was just distracted you.”
“You saw that from across the yard?” I raised an eyebrow, looking at her.
“Baby, I felt that from across the yard,” she corrected me.
“I’m good, Syn,” I assured her, setting the tongs down, moving to fuck with her.
“Moveee.” She giggled just before I trapped her between the counter and my body. I had the grill area set up on the side of the house like an outdoor kitchen. Behind the grill was a set of outdoor counters somewhat similar to kitchen counters, but they were waterproof.
“Nah, I’m not moving shit. You came over here fucking with me.” I picked her up and sat her on the counter.
She giggled, looking up at me. “Only bec—”
I interrupted her statement. “Because you wanted to fuck with me.”
She tilted her head up, just looking at me. In those almond-shaped, chocolate irises I saw everything I needed. I wasn’t perfect, but for her and my family, I was whatever was necessary.
I lowered my head to peck her lips. She did her normal and licked my lips before kissing me back.
Slow, methodical, and nasty.
“Stop kissing me like that unless you wanna get all these people kicked out.” My eyes grazed the space, seeing no one was paying us any attention.
“Nah, they can get kicked out.”
“That’s your word? Ol’ selectively mute ass. ” I laughed.
“But you love me this way.”
That I do.
The End…
