Damien nodded. “I agree. We’re keeping your name out of it, Sarah, to avoid any leaks. But I’ll also sleep better once they’ve left the area.” Damien ran a hand through his dark hair. “Get some sleep. Tomorrow, we’ll probably need to go back to the plane to look for whatever it is these men were looking for.”

As much as she liked her brother-in-law, Sarah felt intense relief once the door closed, and they were finally home alone.

Home.

For the last ten years, home for her had been her London apartment. But now, Jens’s house felt like home.

“Are you sure you’re okay, Sarah? You’re looking pale, suddenly.”

“I’m okay.” She shuddered as she looked at the faded stains on the floor. She wondered if the blood would ever come out completely.

“Come, let’s go back to bed. We’ll close the blinds and sleep till noon.” Jens grabbed her hand and led her slowly up the stairs. She knew what he was doing—looking to erase the bad memories from her mind.

Still dressed, she crawled into bed, pulling the duvet on top of her. In a matter of seconds, he lost his jeans and T-shirt, pulled on a pair of boxer shorts, and got into bed with her. She ran her hand gently along the bandage on his neck.

“I was so scared they were going to kill you,” she said.

Jens sighed. “This is probably something we need to talk about, Sarah. You shouldn’t have come downstairs. I told you to lock yourself in—”

Sarah sat up in bed, incensed. “You told me to lock myself in and call for help. I couldn’t call for help, Jens, so I had to come down. Don’t you see that? I wanted to protect you.”

He pulled her into his arms again, his voice soft against the top of her head. “I know that. And you did. But the best way to protect me, next time, is to protect yourself.”

The anguish in his voice made her heart hurt. Her anger deflated like a popped balloon.

“Oh.”

Jens’s arms squeezed her shoulders before letting go. “We’re okay, Sarah,” he said, bringing her hand to his lips.

“Why don’t you show me how okay we are?” she asked, wriggling her hips.

“You’re wearing too many clothes for that. Here, let me help you with this,” he said, working off the leggings and the T-shirt she was wearing.

She lowered the duvet down to her hips, revealing her white panties.

“Lose those as well.” His voice sounded deeper, rougher than before. She did as he asked, and he pulled her body to him until their bodies were aligned with each other, her back to his front.

“What are you doing?”

“I think we both need to relax,” he said softly, except relaxing was far from her thoughts. He was hot against her back, warming her all over where she hadn’t even realized she was chilled. His erection jutted proudly against her.

“Sleep, Sarah.”

She wriggled her hips and butt against him. “What if I don’t want to sleep?”

He groaned, a sound which filled her with happiness. His hands came to the front of her body, one finger teasing gently inside her. It amazed her that, after the stress of the last hours, her body would be so ready for pleasure.

If she was honest with herself, as much as she’d despised the violence they’d lived through, she was more than a little turned on by how far he’d been willing to go to protect her. They were both alive, and she wanted him more than she’d ever wanted any man before. She wasn’t about to let herself feel any guilt over that.

She moaned as his thumb rubbed gently against her. He’d been paying attention, knew exactly how she liked to be touched.

“Please,” she begged, her voice hitching. “I want to come with you inside me.”

She half-expected him to continue the sweet, sweet torture, until she heard the telltale sound of the condom wrapper.

Yes!

He spread her gently and guided himself inside her body. She lifted her leg to allow him better access, moaning as he went in deep in a single thrust.
