“Missing how?” my brother asks.
“Does it matter?”
“There’s a significant difference between being kidnapped and wandering around downtown lost.”
I sit back down behind my desk, imagining Mia somewhere out there entirely too pleased with herself.
“She ditched her security.”
Silence.
Then Rafa laughs. “Seriously?”
I close my eyes.
“She’s going to be fun to keep in line,” he says, amused.
Across the office, Aldo lifts a brow as though this entire situation is proving his earlier point.
“Just find her,” I say, my patience thinning. “Track her phone.”
“Give me a second.”
Muffled voices and typing carry through the line.
“My guys are on it. How did she escape?”
Good question. I’d like that answer myself so she can’t make this a habit. I look at Aldo, who’s heard the question through the speaker.
“She climbed through the café’s bathroom window,” he says dryly. “Then got onto the back of a motorcycle her friend was riding.”
I stare at him.
A motorcycle. You’ve got to be kidding me.
My jaw tightens at the thought of Mia on the back of that bike. One bad turn or careless driver, and she could be thrown straight onto the road.
I run my hand through my hair. Part of me wants to put her over my knee for being so reckless. And maybe I will.
Across the line, Rafa lets out a low whistle that sounds a little impressed.
“You’re going to have your hands full with that one,” he mutters.
After a beat, he adds, “Her phone is turned off.”
My teeth grind together. She planned this.
Beside me, Aldo says nothing, but I know what he’s thinking. Mia is far too impulsive and unpredictable to be my bride.
He sees complications. I see a woman who simply hasn’t learned yet that there are consequences for defying me.
Once she’s my wife, I’ll shape that rebellious streak into something far more useful. She has good instincts and a sharp mind. If she learns to work with me instead of against me, she could be formidable.
God, that woman needs to agree to marry me already.
