After the last race, I was sure that we’d gone over a big hurdle.

Every season has one, and with the fine and Max benched, I thought ours was behind us.

But no, the next one was knocking on our doors.

The guys and I still had a job to do but this kind of scandal could prove to be a big problem. The sponsors could back out, leaving us high and dry.

Every race cost millions of dollars, no man could fund it all alone and with what happened, we needed our sponsors.

Over two thousand people worked for this team in one way or another. Over two thousand families depended on our ability to perform, and stay on our best behavior.

It was important that we sailed through not just so we could claim the third championship, but so people could still live a normal life.

“No comment,” I said, not even bothering to look at the reporter walking beside me.

He was just one of the many who were trailing me everywhere I went this weekend.

Next weekend, they would focus on someone else.

Until the decision was made and the conference was held, we were all supposed to keep our mouths shut.

I knew it was their job, but how in the fuck did they expect me to say anything?

“Then what about the fact that you were the driver in an accident that took place fifteen years ago? The accident that resulted in two lives lost?”

Everything in me stopped.

“What?” I asked through numb lips.

How the fuck did they find out?

I did everything in my power to keep that buried deep.

I didn’t talk about it to anyone.

No one knew. No one except Mr. Kendrick… and Lola.

I told Lola.

Fuck me.

I told her not even a week ago.

The ground fell from under my feet, my head felt dizzy. I couldn’t believe she’d sold me out.

After everything, she’d turned and got the highest price for my past.

Ignoring the questions being fired at me, I turned and ran.

I needed to get to her.

I needed to make some sense of all this.

I found her pacing the hotel room.

She was nervous. I guess she’d watched the live feed.

“Hey,” I said as if nothing was amiss when inside, I was boiling.
