Chapter Four

Heather

I can’t look away from him. His blue eyes are looking directly into mine and he smirks for barely a second before he focuses on something else and starts speaking. I don’t hear a word he says, but I watch his mouth move. He looks good. Better than I remember. His black hair is longer on top and disheveled, like he just ran a hand through it moments ago, and clipped short at the sides. He has a five-o’clock shadow on his face and I can almost feel it scratching between my thighs. The memory of it is so vivid I have to squeeze my legs to relieve the pain that is starting to pulse there. As if he knows what he’s doing to me, he looks at me and then he traces his eyes down my body that’s visible above the table.

I watch his normally light blue eyes darken and my lips open up on their own and I touch the top one with the tip of my tongue involuntarily. It’s the game we used to play when we worked together. We wanted to see how much we can turn each other on by doing… well, nothing really. Just knowing that we shared a secret and that we weren’t able to do anything in public was enough to leave me at the point where I thought I would burn if I didn’t have his hands on me and soon. I shake my head trying to get out of the daze of him. Trying to stop playing the game, but I can’t. He looks down at the papers in front of him and I track the movement of his hand as he puts the black-rimmed, square-shaped glasses on.

Dear God.

He looks delicious.

But I can’t.

My eyes fall down his corded neck, to his wide shoulders and I remember. I remember the feel of them bunching under my palms as he slammed into me while holding me up against the wall of windows in his office.

“Yes,” I moan quietly and open my eyes wide in horror.

“Yes, Ms. Turner?” Nick asks and all eyes focus on me.

Squirming in my seat, I look down and mumble “Sorry, nothing.”

He doesn’t call me again and I’m grateful for it. It gives me a moment to get myself under control. But the moment he starts speaking again, my control vanishes and my eyes go back to him to carry on where they left off. I track his torso, the chiseled muscles of his chest are stretching his shirt. His six-pack is hidden behind his closed suit jacket. As my eyes go lower I start panting. I have to stop or I will come from just looking at him after all these months and remembering how his body felt when he was on top of me, in me. Suddenly the lights come on, blinding me for a second. Blinking rapidly I look up only for him to imprison me with his blue eyes that are even more pronounced now that he’s wearing his glasses.

“Well, thank you for this presentation, Nick,” Mr. Mathews says standing back up. “We’re excited about this new opportunity and look forward to working with you.”

The applause that erupts around the room while people stand to their feet breaks the spell. I look up and to the right. Mr. Matthews is looking at me with concern in his eyes. He must wonder what is going on with me. I was late for the meeting, which I never am, unprepared and didn’t hear a single word that was said during the presentation. Not to mention, judging by the heat that I feel in my cheeks, I must be redder than a stop sign. I nod my head at him, hoping that will ease his worry for me. I know I'll have to go down to his office and explain my behavior hoping he will give me another chance. Sure, he has a soft spot for me, but I want to earn his approval and respect. Standing up, I join the collective enthusiasm for this new deal and job that we’re about to embark on.

As people are starting to collect their things and slowly filter out of the room, murmuring to each other, Mr. Matthews calls me, “Heather, please join us.”

He’s standing with Nick, turning back to focus on him and what he’s saying. Dreading what’s about to happen, I try to put on a mask of confidence and pray to God that my hands stop shaking. The few steps that are between us feel like I have walked a mile.

“Miss. Turner,” Nick says in that rich voice of his, extending his hand for me to shake.

I take it and the moment our palms meet and his fingers close around mine, a sting shoots up my arm, over my chest right down to my clit and my knees go weak.

“Mr. Thompson,” I breathe.

“It’s a pleasure to see you,” he purrs.

His index finger starts gliding over the soft skin on my wrist and I have to bite my lip to stop the moan that is bubbling inside me to come out. I pull my hand back and fight the urge to put it in my pants pocket or hide it behind my back.

"Heather will be the one to handle all of this. Any questions your people may have, go through her," Mr. Matthew's announces visibly bursting with pride.

I give him a weak smile and look back at Nick only to see a triumphant smile gracing his face.

Shit. What now?

"That's excellent news," Nick says turning his head and looking at the man standing beside me.

“I have complete confidence in her,” Mr. Matthews continues speaking as if Nick hadn’t said a word. “She’s done an excellent job handling our other business and I’m sure she’ll do great while ironing this one out. Won’t you, Heather?”

My mouth goes dry, I’m unable to form even one word. If Mr. Matthews knew what he just did, he would grab me and probably hide me somewhere, while simultaneously lecture me about the importance of family, values, and morals.

But, he doesn’t know.

He’s oblivious to the fact that he gave Nick total access to me at all times. If he needs something, I’m the one he’s going to call. And I’m positive he won’t let his assistants do anything. Everything will go through him. As it always did. The two men look at me expectantly, one starting to get concerned, the other smiling sweetly. All I’m capable of is a weak smile and a nod.

“Excellent,” Mr. Matthews pats Nick's back forcefully. “I’ll leave you two to it,” turning to me he whispers, even though Nick can hear him. “Are you alright, Heather?”
