“You’re rotten from the core. I’m sorry I ever thought you were a nice person inside.”
“You can’t live without me. Sex with me is incredible. I know you’re aware. Soon you’ll come running and beg me on your knees to take you back.”
My eyes widened. “Are you kidding me right now? We haven’t slept together in almost a year. We haven’t even shared the same bedroom in a long time.” I shut my eyes, trying to keep my calm. But when words left my mouth, they were laced with wrath. “How can you be so conceited? Any lay in the future will be better than what you can provide. Stop putting yourself on a pedestal. Don’t be selfish, Savannah,” I added, using her own words. “Being a jerk is overrated anyway.”
She clamped her mouth shut before saying, “I love you.”
A sarcastic chuckle bubbled out. “You wish.”
“Don’t go, Carter. Stay with me. We’re good together. We’ll work out our differences. I’ll make it up to you. I always do.”
Savannah inched closer and dragged her long ruby fingernails down the length of my chest. Iciness ran up and down my spine.
I circled her wrist, took another step back, and moved out of her reach.
“We’re done. We were never good together. Not interested in your toxic behavior. You have another boy toy, anyway. You don’t need me.”
All color drained from her plastic face.
“You know about Jean-Jacques?”
A guttural grunt escaped my lips. “You’re not even subtle about him. I know you’ve been having an affair for what, six, eight months? How stupid do you think I am?” Her red-painted lips parted. Who wore scarlet lipstick this early in the morning anyway? “Stop. Don’t. Not a word. I don’t want to hear anything else from you.”
Savannah used her sultriest voice. “Stay. Jean-Jacques means nothing. I want to be with you. He was just the means to get a role, nothing more.” She batted her long dark eyelashes. As if I was dumb enough to fall for her sham after almost two years of hell. The sound of her voice alone made my stomach churn and the hair stand on end on my arms.
“I don’t owe you anything. Go, dig your claws into someone else’s heart and bank account, and leave me alone.” I sucked in a breath. “By the way, I broke the lease. You have to get out of this apartment by the weekend.” No way would I let her surf on my money any longer. Screw that. It cost a pretty penny to forfeit the lease, but it was worth every cent from the look on Miss Lucifer’s face.
A dark red hue crawled over her neck and painted her entire face.
Her eyes bulged, and for a second, I believed her eyeballs would pop out of their sockets.
Her lips twisted with derision. Mine curled up into the biggest smirk my face could contain.
Then she lost it. Her bone-chilling scream resonated throughout the apartment.
My grin broadened. This sight alone was worth millions of dollars.
I dodged the vase she threw at me that crashed on the wall two inches from my head.
Next, she threw a pillow.
And a TV clicker.
One black high heel.
I moved to the side to avoid being stabbed in the chest by the stiletto.
One step to the right and she missed me when she threw a glass my way.
Then another black heel.
Fury had taken over her features.
Her face, already red hot, now looked almost purplish.
I blinked as a plate flew my way.
It crashed on the side of my skull.
