I flipped him off and waved the sage around his face.

He coughed and swatted at the thick smoke. “You’re nuts. Do you know that?”

“Hold still. “You’re clearly possessed.”

He ducked away. “The only thing possessed in this room is you. You’re unhinged, babe.”

“I think you have me confused with you.”

He stole the sage and held it out of my reach. “Psychos attract psychos.”

“We’re more of an opposites-attract situation.”

“If that’s what helps you sleep better at night.” He stood and stubbed the sage out in the ashtray.

“It does. Thank you.”

“It’s okay. My kind of crazy happens to like your kind.”

“You’ll become that. Just give it time.” He winked. “I’ll break you in.”

“Ha! Have you met me, sir?”

He checked his hair in the vanity mirror, then looked back at me. “Yes. You were very much obedient when I told you to come all over my cock last night.” He passed me on his way to the door.

“You’re leaving?” I asked. “No morning-after breakfast in bed?”

“You’re not special enough for breakfast in bed.”

I winced. Asshole.

That was why I’d saged his ass.

He reached the door and stopped.

When he spoke, his tone was serious. “Don’t forget what tomorrow is.”

The door shut behind him.

Just like that, every smart-ass thought disappeared.

My Initiation was tomorrow.

And I was so unprepared.

After chugging two energy drinks, a vanilla latte, and a Dr Pepper, I was one espresso shot away from a heart attack.
