“Hopefully. I wish Paris would have told someone on Friday, but she’s always been that way.”

“What way?” Fletcher asked. Nelson liked to chat and since he was looking into this, it wouldn’t hurt to know more about the players involved.

“Internal. London, you know what she’s thinking or feeling just by looking at her face. But Paris is a bit hard to get a read on.”

“She always seems friendly to me.”

“Of course she does,” Nelson said, laughing. “It’s that Southern politeness. Paris got it all.”

“She isn’t always so polite with me.”

Not lately.

“She’ll end up apologizing for it once she realizes.”

“Nothing to apologize for.”

He had pretty thick skin.

After what he went through with his ex, a few sarcastic words over messed-up nerves was nothing.

“I’m glad you’re on it,” Nelson said. “Your predecessor, he was good for some things, but didn’t always get answers fast enough.”

It didn’t bother him in the least the last guy was let go with a hefty severance.

No one told him the reasons, but he’d looked into it himself, and all he found was the guy loved the fat salary and stayed in his office.

You wouldn’t find Fletcher sitting in here if he could get out and move around the building.

Always checking for gaps, loopholes, and threats.

Maybe it was just what he was used to doing.

“That won’t be an issue for me.”

Nelson grinned and shook his head. “And you’ll be able to get to it faster if I leave you alone. Good chat, Fletcher.”

More humor with a twist of sarcasm, but he wasn’t the least bit offended.

They didn’t hire him to talk.

Nor did they hire him to look and think about Paris Westerly as much as he was.

BOTH SHARED

On Sunday morning, Paris rolled over and grabbed her pillow, jamming it over her head to keep out the knocking.

What the hell was going on?

She’d never heard noise this early in the morning. No one came to their door either.

She didn’t want to get up and get it, but then she heard voices and realized that London must have stayed here last night.

She didn’t know. Didn’t even check.

She had stumbled in close to one in the morning after a long flight that had too many problems and she was just happy to touch ground in New York.
