I shake my head. I couldn’t begin to explain why the idea of him covering my mouth, controlling my breath, makes me shiver with want. Maybe another time—if we ever get another time. Now, though, I don’t know if I can endure being fucked harder without breathing.

Luke nods like he understands. “Bite your pillow if you have to. I won’t go easy on you.”

He thrusts deep, and a raw, unknown kind of pleasure grips me. It’s like he’s touching someplace dangerous inside me, a place that could hurt but doesn’t. Luke knows exactly how far he can push me. I don’t know how, and right now, I don’t care to explain it.

It’s all I can do to hold onto his shoulders while he fucks me. He holds me just the way he wants while he gives me just as much as I can take. My legs are spread open into a stretch that almost stings. Maybe it should hurt, but if I’ve learned anything from this, it’s that the most intense pleasure lives just on the border of what I can handle, and Luke knows precisely how to get me there.

His pubic bone rubs against my clit, sparking heat with the friction of it. The ridge of his cock head hits the sensitive spot inside me, then someplace deeper, over and over. My nervous system is overloaded by how much I feel, by all the places I’m being touched.

It’s better than good.

Luke’s name hangs on my lips as I turn and bite my pillow, right before my orgasm drags me under. I’m somewhere deep and murky, dark and safe. An animal pleasure wracks my body, the kind of orgasm I didn’t know existed. The woman who holds all the details in her head is gone, replaced by a creature that’s raw and primal and just wants.

“Wildflower,” Luke moans, and I force my eyes open. His face is twisted in pleasure, his jaw clenched and his gaze dark. I know he’s close, and after all the bliss he’s given me, I want it for him, too.

“Come with me, Luke,” I whisper, and his eyes flash with something I can’t name.

I feel the loss of him when he pulls out. He fists his cock, giving it a few final strokes before he spills across my belly. He blinks, staring at his seed on my skin like it’s a miracle. “Look at you,” he rasps, his eyes dark and reverent. “Glowing. Marked up. Mine.” After a moment, he rubs himself through the mess with jerky, graceless movements, his face twisted in a pleasure I want to see again and again and again.

He collapses next to me, his chest heaving as he catches his breath. I’m doing the same. I feel like I’ve just sprinted across the property, my muscles wrung out and exhausted. At the same time, though, I’m relaxed. Sated. Happier than I’ve ever been.

He reaches for the tissues on my nightstand and cleans me with slow, careful strokes, then gathers me into his chest, one hand splayed over my sternum like he’s guarding my heartbeat. “Talk to me,” he murmurs. “Are you sore? Happy? Terrified?”

“Yes,” I whisper, and feel him smile against my temple.

Luke and I lay tangled in my too-small bed, our breaths the only sound. Neither of us says what we both know.

The line we drew between us is gone, and three more days is not going to be nearly enough. No matter what we do now, the ending we agreed to is going to break us both.

LUKE

Two Days Until the Wedding

When I come down for breakfast, I find Rose with a box of donuts and a pot of coffee. “I’d eat one fast if I were you,” she tells me. “Eden expects everyone in the barn after breakfast, and any lollygaggers are getting lectured.”

“Everyone? What about the babies?”

“The babies are excused.” She points to the two monitors on the counter. “I’m keeping an eye on them. They’re sleeping for now.”

“Any chance I can join them? I could use an extra hour of sleep,” I joke.

Rose raises her brows. “Not if you expect to still have a girlfriend at the end of the day. Now get.”

I shove a donut in my mouth and hurry out to the barn, where Nate and James are already unloading folding chairs from a large moving van full of furniture. “What are you two doing up already?” I ask. I was already planning on coming out early to help Eden, and I’m surprised they beat me.

“Baby alarm clock,” Nate grunts. “Now go inside and get your assignment.”

Inside the barn, I find Eden holding a clipboard, her hair pulled back into a sensible ponytail. She's wearing fitted jeans and a white T-shirt, and looking edible.

“Morning,” I tell her in a low voice. “Are your brothers around?”

She barely looks up from her clipboard. “They should be. I told them we’d be starting setup at nine, and—”

I wrap my arm around her waist and pull her tight against me. Cradling her face in one hand, I duck my head to brush my lips against hers. “Hi,” I whisper.

Eden’s cheeks flush. “Luke, we have to set up for the reception,” she says. “There’s so much to do.”
