She couldn’t help the vision that flashed through her mind, a movie they’d seen together months ago, painfully cheesy with its horror effects, the werewolf ripping right through his clothes as he changed from human to wolf.

You’re being ridiculous.

Shaking her head, she dropped it back in and dusted her hands off. Then she pulled the bag out and tied it up. After washing her hands thoroughly, she grabbed her travel mug, sling bag, and trash before giving the bedroom door another glance.

Between the shirts and the weird chanting and the three dogs… what the hell, Galen?

After dumping the bag in the building’s dumpster, she promised to have a good day at work. No distractions.

It didn’t take long for her to break that promise though.

“Miss Betty, are you asking me to tell you how to use the device?” she questioned, lowering her head into her hands.

The old lady sputtered on the other end. “W-Well, no. That would be strange, wouldn’t it, dear? I just… haven’t ever used one of these toys before,” she explained, sounding absolutely scandalized.

How did Maeve’s life come to this? Explaining how to use a vibrating dildo to an old lady somewhere in the world. She was tech support, not sex education.

It was so ridiculous, she let out a silent giggle. If someone was going to have a good day, it clearly wasn’t Maeve. So why not Miss Betty?

“Miss Betty, did you know there are over eight thousand nerve endings in the clitoris alone? That’s double the number of those in a penis.”

“Oh my,” she said.

“And the toy you have in your hands is made to stimulate every one of them.”

“Oh my,” she repeated.

“Now, do you see the bunny ears above the power button?”

Miss Betty gasped. “Those are bunny ears? How precious.”

Maeve couldn’t help but laugh.

In between calls, she listed off all the weird shit she’d begun to notice about her boyfriend.

The torn shirts, the chanting, the three puppies with glowing eyes. Their freaky names?

Maeve deflated as she looked at her list. It was too vague.

She needed more. More… weirdness.

Because at this point… she didn’t know where to start. Who was Galen?

Or what? her subconscious supplied.

“Stop it,” she whispered to herself. There was no need to get carried away here. No such thing as werewolves.

But what if it wasn’t a werewolf? What if it was some other creature?

Shut up!

She closed the tabs on her computer, scribbled out her sticky note list before crumpling it. Tossing it in the shred bin, she collected herself and put the thoughts from her mind.

She could deal with it later.

Unfortunately, later came sooner than she anticipated, and always at the worst time. The sound of the bedroom door creaking open and closed pulled her from sleep. Again.

Could she not get an entire fucking night’s worth?
