“No, I don’t have meds.”

Nic sighed. “It’s going to be rough then.”

Wendy didn’t say anything as she studied the beta. He was big. At least a foot taller than her, which put him at… like six-foot-four. Jesus. What a knockout.

His peppered square jaw was clenched as he made the offer. And his eyes set within his sharp Asian features were wide, as if he was as surprised at the offer as she.

Was he as uncomfortable with the idea?

He smelled like… something light. Airy and clean and fresh like soft spring blossoms and… something she couldn’t put her finger on. It wasn’t a very strong scent, but at least it didn’t make her nose wrinkle. In fact, the gentle giant’s scent didn’t bother her at all.

This beta looked like he would own a gym, and from the size of his arms, it didn’t seem like he was a stranger to his own equipment.

He could be intimidating, if needed.

He could protect you.

Though he hadn’t really succeeded as he’d burst into the changing room and found her sprawled on the floor with all her toys. Her Taser had taken him down easily enough.

Her cheeks heated at the memory.

At least she hadn’t had to use the knife tucked in her bag as well.

“You want me to come home with you. Why? You wanna help me out with this heat?” Wendy asked the question as a tease, added a wink for an extra touch of flirtation.

But the beta just blinked at her. “I just want you to be safe.”

She bristled as he didn’t rise to the bait. Did he not find her attractive?

Does that really matter right now?

No, her inner voice was right. There were more important things to focus on. Like the fact that this beta just offered his home for her to ride her heat out in.

Wendy glanced around the tidy gym. With nowhere else to go…

“Do you have neighbors?”

“Yeah, but the walls aren’t thin and the bedroom is at the back. It’s on the third floor, so it wouldn’t be exactly easy for someone to break in.”

Wendy adjusted her backpack as she considered it. It did seem too good to be true, but what other option did she have?

“Alright. Take me home, hero,” she announced as she bent down and scooped her cat up before heading toward the door.

A squeak of his tennis shoes told her he’d stumbled at her words. “What?”

“What, what?” she echoed. “You offered, I accepted. Let’s go, we don’t have all night.”

“Don’t you have any questions for me? You’re just going to go home with a stranger?”

Wendy’s shoulders stiffened, and she wheeled to face him. He almost stumbled into her, but caught his footing as his amber-colored eyes widened.

“You not buzzing hard enough from that tase?” she threatened. Wendy put all her gusto into the act. “I may be an omega, and I may have nowhere to go while my heat hits, but that doesn’t mean I’m weak. I will fuck your life up so hard if you even think about trying something with me.”

His eyes were still wide as he nodded again. “Yes, ma’am.”

She waited another moment while he stood there. Wendy had to crane her neck to glare up at him and that was just... so annoying. What kind of threat did she look like, staring straight up like that? Why did he have to be so tall?

“So, we doing this? What are you waiting for?” she urged. Wendy hadn’t been kidding when she said they didn’t have all night. Her heat didn’t seem to care about whether she was in danger or not—she felt the first flush of warmth from head to toe.
