The omega—with her scent all some kind of sugary, tart fruit he couldn’t place— rolled her eyes. “I came in through the broken window.”
“Why?”
“To tell you about it.”
The duh was implied, and he ground his teeth together.
Something brushed against his leg, and he jumped before glancing down to find the cat purring and rubbing against him. With the business end of the bat, he nudged the animal away, and it scampered off to bump his head into the omega. “Why wouldn’t you just come in to tell me about it?”
“The place is dark, the front door was locked. How else was I supposed to tell you?”
Nic tilted his head north, requesting patience. The wall at his back was providing ample support as his brain cells clicked together to make sense of this.
“So you broke into the ‘already broken’ window to tell me about said window? With your cat and your… your mystery gadget bag?”
The omega huffed. “Yeah. That’s about right.”
He didn’t believe it one bit.
“And you had to tase me?” he bit out.
“You came in here with a bat, what else was I supposed to do? I thought you were gonna attack me.”
Nic sighed. It was a totally fair answer, and he couldn’t blame her.
But why would an omega with a cat on a leash and a bag of dildos be breaking into a closed place?
There was only one answer, and it was in the extra sweet note of her scent. The thickness of it, the way it sank into his skin with a bite that didn’t want to let go.
“You’re in heat?” he asked, hand clenching over the handle of the bat.
The omega paused as she packed away the last spilled dildo, the one at his feet. Then she rose to her full height, which was still at least a foot shorter than him. Her blue-gray eyes were dark with determination. Or maybe that was stubbornness.
“Not yet, but it’s not far off.”
“Why don’t you go to the omega center?”
She flinched at the name but brushed off the tic with another flick of her long dark hair over her shoulder. “No thanks.”
The omega brushed past him, exiting the changing room, and he was so stunned by the huge pair of balls on this female that he stepped to the side before he even realized what he was doing.
“Hey!” he called out, following her and the feline as she strolled down the hallway with all the confidence of someone who owned the place.
That was Nic’s job!
“So like, I can stay here, right? Doesn’t look too busy.”
“We’re closed,” he explained, keeping one hand on the wall to steady himself as he lurched after her.
“Great. I’ll be out of your hair in the morning.”
“What—no, that’s not—” He growled in frustration before swallowing it down like a glass of nails. “You’re not staying in my gym.”
A gym full of fighters couldn’t come in the next morning to a place swarming with pre-heat pheromones from a horny omega.
It would be chaos.
“You can’t stay here,” he repeated.
