Now that she’d eaten, her heat took the place of her most adamant need, slowly heating her from the inside out.

“Yeah,” she agreed, forgetting what they were talking about as she slotted herself over the alpha’s knee. Dipping her head, she tasted him and hummed at the smooth creamy taste.

“Do you think your heat is getting better?” Tate asked, though all of Wendy’s attention was locked on the alpha before her.

“Not exactly,” she admitted, words muttered against Arlo’s lips.

Even after two knots, it was more intense, hotter. Making her skin slick with sweat and her thighs wet with arousal.

“I’m going to go help Grif clean up,” she distantly heard Nic whisper.

She trusted her beta would be back, so Wendy fell deeper into Arlo, sliding their tongues together and tasting every inch of him she could reach. Wanting more, more, more, Wendy finally broke the kiss with a gasp and let herself get pulled back into Tate. She tilted her head up to him, only to whine at the sight of the bite guard.

Part of her hated being safe.

But the smarter part of her zipped her lips and let the alphas care for her.

Chapter 40

WENDY

“Hey, there you are.” Nic’s voice broke into her sleepy haze, and she sat up before making her way toward his open arms, dragging a blanket with her.

“God, you smell good,” Wendy murmured, lowering her head to his neck and getting a good hit. “Missed you,” she admitted.

Nic chuckled, chest bouncing beneath her as he wrapped his big arms around her back. “M’glad to hear that.”

Wendy was quiet, happy for the brief reprieve of the aching heat in her body. Her hair was still wet from the shower she’d shared with Tate and Arlo after she’d taken their knots. She shivered a chill away.

Now it was just her and the beta in the tent, and she laid her head back down on him, letting his scent surround her and chase the cold away.

Alpha.

Wendy wrinkled her nose and ignored the needy part of her that was getting louder. Nic was right here, she could wait ten fucking minutes for Griffith to get back from whatever he was doing. So she sank into the beta and breathed in clean spring blossoms and let him pet her hair.

“Where’s Griffith?” she found herself asking anyway.

“Right here,” he said, pulling the flap of the tent back and peeking in.

He carefully balanced a few bottles of water in his arms as he bent down and tried to make it through the short clearance without falling. “I brought water,” he announced. “And the shower is free now.”

Grif dropped down into a cross-legged position and tossed a cold bottle toward them.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, staring at Wendy.

She shivered at the cold condensation on the bottle as it rolled to a stop next to her thigh. “Okay,” she said. For the moment.

Red hot coals still burned at her core, just waiting for someone to stoke the fire, and it pissed Wendy off when they flared up at just the presence of the damn alpha.

She ground her teeth as she picked up the water, uncapping it to drink like she knew they secretly wanted to.

“Are you hungry?”

“No, I’m okay for now,” she answered.

Griffith narrowed his eyes on her. “Are you sure? What about a shower? Is there anything else I can—”

“Griffith,” she snapped. “I am fine. I don’t need you to look after me.”
