Wrapping her arms around his neck, she stared into his gaze. He was so tall that even on her knees she barely stood above him.
“Hi,” she answered. “So…”
“So…” Nic echoed.
Wendy’s gaze flicked from Griffith, who watched the two of them with a stoic expression.
“How did it go?” she asked, waiting for Griffith to look at her. Nic’s ruffled hair earlier had to be a good sign, right?
“How’d what go?” Nic questioned.
Lifting a fist to his mouth, Grif cleared his throat to draw Nic’s attention his way.
“I’m here, aren’t I?” Grif answered with a question. His eyes flicked past her shoulder and she turned toward the mated pair of alphas.
“Don’t mind us,” Tate said, in the process of wiggling down with his hands behind his head.
Arlo tossed an arm over Tate’s chest, snuggling into his partner. “We’re not even here,” he agreed.
“But totally listening.”
“That too,” Arlo agreed with a snicker.
Tate’s arm curled over Arlo’s back and started caressing what dark skin he could reach. They were absolutely delectable together.
Wendy shivered in Nic’s lap as visions of her and the two alphas crossed her mind.
“Hey,” Griffith said, but as she turned her attention to him, he wasn’t even speaking to her. “Knotheads,” he called out.
Tate lifted up, and Arlo groaned as he rolled off Tate’s chest. “What?”
“Don’t just lie there, go get some more water for Wendy,” he grumbled. “You’re taking part in her heat, try to act like it.”
Wendy frowned at Griffith. “Don’t kick them out,” she said, voice almost a whine. “You’ll be back, right?” she asked the alphas.
“It’s your heat. Do you want us here?” Arlo asked.
Her breath whooshed out of her. The Sterling Pack had always made sure someone was available for her heats, beginning to end. The color coded chart they made for each heat blocked out the hours each pair would visit, probably hoping not to overwhelm her.
But it had done just the opposite, because their scents hadn’t lasted long enough for her to smell all of them at once. By the time the fourth would show up, the first alpha’s scent would have already dissipated.
She hadn’t loved them, but she had still been an omega in heat. At the time, they’d been her pack. It was their job to take care of her, and yet they’d left her wanting the whole time.
And now that these alphas, this makeshift pack, was asking her what she wanted, she… parted her lips and told them, “Yes. Don’t take too long. I want you here.”
A smile curled Tate’s mouth, took her breath away as he nodded. “Then we’ll be right back.”
As the alphas left the tent, she turned toward Nic, but watched as Grif battled the fabric of the tent to stop touching his head.
Wendy giggled. “I guess this tent isn’t Griffith-sized, is it?”
“I am literally taller than him,” Nic grumbled. His tone sounded so defeated Wendy couldn’t help the laugh that exploded out of her.
“I forgot,” she admitted between giggles. She reached down and squeezed one of his thighs for balance, the thick muscle flexing at her fondling. Nic’s thighs were perfect for everything. Napping, grinding, probably cutting someone’s air off if used the right way… grinding.
Her body tensed as arousal left a hot little kick in her stomach.
Nic hummed, uncrossing his forearms from around her and flipping her around. She melted into him as he slid his fingers to the insides of her thighs, anticipating his next move with bated breath.
