DARIA

After a bath that ended with them more dirty than clean, Daria helped Truth get the kitchen back in order. They were supposed to be cleaning, but more than once Daria found herself atop another kitchen surface, making out with Truth as if they couldn’t get enough of each other.

Which was true. She could easily lay around all night with Truth, christening every inch of her Victorian home.

They were only a few articles of clothing away from such a feat… again. Truth was framed between her thighs on the couch, where they’d landed after making sure the kitchen was utterly spotless. Their tongues twined, fingers tangled in the other’s hair, hips rolling into each other as if he was already inside her.

It all came to a grinding halt when the front door crashed open with a bang, bringing the rest of her demons home. Daria froze, entangled in Truth, and rolled her head to the side until the door was in view.

Thank God our clothes are still on.

Propping himself up on one hand, Truth casually waved as if his tongue hadn’t been halfway down her throat two seconds before. Hope’s cheeks turned the slightest shade of coral, which looked downright adorable on his tawny colored skin.

“So, I see the talk went well,” Misery teased. The casual, smart-ass remark put Daria at ease, and she pushed at Truth’s chest so they could both sit up.

“Did you guys have fun?” Daria asked nonchalantly, ignoring her flaming cheeks as she stood.

Their answers came all at once.

“Yeah, so much fun,” Hope exclaimed, nodding quickly.

“It sure was a party,” Misery added, his grin more like a grimace.

“A blast. So much fun I could’ve died,” Death stated in a dry tone. Betrayal jerked his head in Death’s direction and glared, but then shook it off and faced her.

“Tons.”

Daria narrowed her eyes. What are they up to?

Interrupting her suspicious thoughts, Betrayal sauntered forward with a decidedly dark, filthy grin on his face. “So when is it my turn? It’s been a while since I’ve had a taste,” he purred, waggling his eyebrows.

She scoffed and held a hand out to stop him from coming closer. Instead, he paused only when her palm rested against his warm, firm chest. A snarky response was ready on her tongue, but she stopped before it could get past her lips. Tilting her head to the side, she zoned in on his shirt. He hadn’t been wearing a turtleneck when he’d left. She specifically remembered, because the short-sleeved, gray shirt had hugged his biceps in a delicious way.

Betrayal cocked his head to the side as if trying to read her, and the movement revealed a dark red stain just below the collar of the shirt.

“What’s that?” Daria inquired, pointing to his neck.

The gold in his eyes dimmed just a bit before he cleared his throat. With a glance back at the guys, he shrugged before anyone else could speak, and answered, “Blood.”

Her stomach dropped. “Excuse me? What’d you do, murder someone on your night out on the town?”

“Yep,” Betrayal replied, extending the word. “That’s exactly what we did. Fun night.”

“Lie,” Truth announced from behind her. His arms were crossed as he stepped up beside her to glare at the group of demons. “It’s obvious what we’ve been up to all night,” Truth drawled as her cheeks flushed pink… again. “What about you guys?”

“We played laser tag. Then I killed the host because he wouldn’t stop talking and we buried his body behind the building.”

Daria rolled her eyes at Betrayal’s monotone voice and shoved him aside.

“Alright, someone tell me what really happened.”

Her voice might have sounded calm and collected, and she might have appeared to have it all under control, but the hint of blood on Betrayal’s neck had speared her with worry. If they hadn’t been the aggressor, that meant… “Did you get attacked?” All the concern and anxiety that tumbled through her at the thought of someone attacking them was loud and clear in the way her voice wobbled.

It was Misery who broke, and his expression crumbled just seconds before his resolve did. “Pandora sent some demons after us and they almost killed Betrayal, but we stopped them, and Hope kicked some righteous ass and then Death chased the other off, but they escaped before we could stop them.” Misery sucked in a sharp breath after he spoke and covered his mouth with a hand.

Hope, Death, and Betrayal groaned simultaneously and sent dirty looks his way.

“Real smooth, man. Real smooth,” Betrayal droned.
