Again, I had a view of the practice field. During the day, natural light penetrated the roof, brightening the field when the sun was shining. This time of the year, the sun was late to rise and early to set, leaving the field cast in a murky dimness.

Taking off my jacket, I laid it in one chair and sat in the other.

With my phone in hand, I could have easily kept myself occupied rereading the new plays, catching up on current events, or scrolling social media. I didn’t do any of those things. From where I was seated, I had the perfect view of the stunning titan of football operations.

There was a different cadence to her voice—professional, knowledgeable, with an edge of authority. Throughout the entire season, this was my first experience seeing Vee in this role—vice president of stadium operations—a role where she thrived, unlike football operations where she was new.

This was her world, and in it, she shone.

Whomever she was speaking to was named Gavin. I picked up on his name. While I didn’t try to understand the content of what they were discussing, it was the sound of Vee’s voice and changing facial expressions that had me mesmerized. Vee was fucking sexy as hell in this element.

She was incredibly sensual in all environments.

Even at home, we both know, the only reason our Fin’s-in-control bubble works was because we both wanted it. As I listened to her discussing security protocol for another upcoming fan experience, she wanted perfection and wouldn’t settle for anything less.

“Thank you, Gavin,” Vee said. “I’ll watch for your report tomorrow. Also, I’ll get back to you on the numbers as soon as Wednesday.”

“I’ll have the report, Vee.”

“Goodbye.” She popped her chin higher meeting my gaze. “Thanks for waiting.”

Getting up, I walked to the door to her office and inspected the doorknob.

“What are you doing?”

I turned to see that she was now standing. A mischievous smirk quirked my lips. My focus started on her slacks covering her round hips and moved upward, a thin belt showcasing her trim waist, the dark-blue scooped blouse covering her perfect breasts, the soft, fuzzy white sweater covering her arms, up to her radiant eyes.

“Fin, what were you doing?”

“I was searching for a lock.”

Vee’s face exploded with a sensational smile, her green eyes shining. “You’re crazy.”

Walking toward her I reached for her waist, pulling her hips toward mine. “I don’t think you realize how fucking sexy you are when you’re in all-business mode.”

She scoffed. “I hardly think Gavin Weiss, my director of safety, security, and emergency services would share that opinion.”

Wrapping my arm around the small of her back, I brought our lips inches apart. “Good. I don’t want to compete with Gavin.”

I stopped her laugh by bringing my lips down hard on hers. Within my grasp, Vee melted, meshing closer, bringing her soft to my hard. She lifted her arms to my shoulders, her fingers in my hair. Our breathing deepened.

Finally, I took a step back and lowered my voice. “Seriously, Vee, does that door lock? I’m fucking hard, and the idea of you bent over your desk is making it painful.”

“That’s the second-best thing I’ve heard today.”

It was my turn to chuckle. “Second.” I took a step back. “It was Gavin, wasn’t it? That was your first best thing?”

“No.” She shook her head. “I have one more Zoom meeting before I can leave.” She arched her eyebrows. “Or I might take you up on the desk thing. I’ve never done that.”

I looked down at my watch. “How long until your next meeting?”

“Fin, Fran from guest services is already waiting for me.” She buzzed with excitement, wiggling her shoulders and bouncing on her toes. “I didn’t want to wait to tell you.”

Reaching for her shoulders, I gently held them still and stared into her gaze. “What is it?” Whatever it was, I loved seeing her happy.

“I’ll give you more detail at home.” She grasped my hands in hers. “I had a lunchtime meeting with Cammy Wilcox and Tricia Loften. Fin, the Coopers are mine. They’re really mine.”

Freeing my hands, I wrapped her in a hug, lifting her feet off the floor. Once her feet were back to the tile, I looked deep into her emerald orbs. “They’re yours. Did Daphne take back her motion to contest the will? Is Bre not pursuing the team in the name of her child?”
