"Nothing." I shake my head. "I just didn't expect..." I gesture between us. "You. Me. This."

He studies my face.

"Neither did I," he admits. "But I'm not complaining."

The morning passes in slow motion. He makes me coffee. I can’t help but watch him. He's beautiful, he catches me watching and raises an eyebrow.

"Eat something," he says, pushing a plate toward me. "You look like you haven't had a real meal in weeks."

Chapter 15B

Cain

I should be at work. I have meetings, conference calls but I'm sitting in my kitchen, holding Grey's hand, watching him eat toast like it's the most important thing I've ever seen. When did I realize that I wanted to keep him for myself?

"I have to go in," I say. "Meetings."

He nods. Pulls his hand back. "I'll go home," he says. "Get changed. Come in later."

"No."

He blinks. "No?"

"You should stay here. I'll be back by noon."

Stay here and wait just like last night.

"Cain, I need to get my clothes from my apartment, I'll be back," he says.

"I'll have clothes brought. Let me do this," I say. "Let me take care of you."

"Why?"

I Walk around the table and stand in front of him.

"Because you need it," I say. "Because you've been alone for too long. Because you're mine now, and that means I get to look after you."

He looks up at me. And then he nods.

"Okay."

I kiss him before I leave. "I'll be back by noon," I say.

"I'll be here."

Chapter 16A

Grey

My phone buzzes as few minutes after Cain leaves his apartment. I reach for it, expecting Cain. A message saying he's coming back early. Something to reassure me that he is thinking of me as much as I am thinking of him. It's not Cain.

Unknown: You think you've won.

I stare at the screen. What? Before I can even think of a reply a new message comes through

Unknown: You think he's yours. He's not. He never will be.

I type back.
