I could feel him releasing and climaxing inside me, and I pushed back into his body, wanting everything he had. With a final thrust, he relaxed and let my body fall forward, but he went with me and blanketed my body with his own.

My heartbeat was loud in my ears, and our bodies were sweaty and spent. I was sore in places I didn’t know you could be, and I was going to be bruised all over tomorrow, and I’d never felt more satisfied and complete.

Cain stretched his hands out and gripped my hands to link our fingers together as we lay still joined.

“I’ve never been with anyone else without a condom, only you,” he whispered in my ear. It felt like he’d just sung a love ballad. My heart swelled with joy as my brain processed that piece of information. “You’re mine now, Sunshine. You were from the second I saw you, but now you’re really mine, and you know what I am, but I promise you that I’ll never lie to you, and I’ll never hurt you the way others have.”

“So, does this mean you’re not going to kill me?” I turned my head enough to see the expression on his face.

“Only if you become a threat. Otherwise, I’d kill anyone and anything for you. All you need to do is ask.” My body shuddered under his. “I brought you something else from your mother’s house,” he said, and I could feel him smirk into my neck.

Cain lifted himself up, and I sucked in a sharp breath, feeling empty with him no longer filling me. Turning on my side, I watched him walk across the room to a cupboard and open the door to pull out a canvas bag. He could walk around naked all day, and I’d never grow bored of those wide-muscled shoulders, cut arms, and drool-worthy abs.

He sat down beside me and opened the bag. He first pulled out my teddy bear. Smiling, I took the gift my father had given me as part of my high school graduation gifts. I held it to my chest and rubbed the soft fur on my face. Cain then pulled out the picture that sat with the bear, and tears pricked my eyes as I stared at my father’s smiling face.

“I also grabbed this.”

He pulled out my old diary, and my eyes went wide, but I didn’t try to snatch it from his hand. Cain didn’t feel bad about invading personal space. Why would he? He stalked, captured, and killed his victims, so taking a diary was low on the list of things he’d even think were wrong.

“Why did you take that,” I asked.

He shrugged, his wide shoulders lifting and falling, which reminded me of something he’d done as a child. “It allowed me to try and understand you better.”

“You wanted to understand me?”

“Yes, I like to understand everything.”

That comment explained a lot about Cain.

“Why do you say you don’t know your father,” he asked and held up the diary to show the pages that told the truth. I swallowed the lump in my throat before looking down at the picture in my hands.

“This is not my father, he’s my dad, but my mom says she doesn’t know who my biological father is. She cheated on my dad, and they split when I found out by accident.” It was my turn to shrug. “It doesn’t matter now, I guess.”

“Do you want to know?”

“Yeah. Just to know where I came from, you know?”

“Not really.”

I looked up into his eyes, and it was hard to comprehend that, for someone so intelligent, how emotionally limited he was. He watched his father die and didn’t care. He walked in on his mother being murdered and helped clean it up. He killed with ease, but the concept of wanting to know who my real dad was, seemed to be lost on him.

“But, I’ll find out for you.” His stare never wavered. Shocked, I watched him stand and then hold out his hand. “Let’s go shower and then I’ll make dinner and bring it down before I fuck you again. I plan on having you many times tonight. Then tomorrow, I’ll find the answers you want.”

Placing my still shackled hand in his, it seemed more like a piece of jewelry now. I wasn’t sure if I’d run if he took it off, and as I stood and he drew me into his body and kissed me, the idea of running was pushed back in my mind, the image becoming an out-of-focus picture.

CAIN

I wasn’t sure why I offered to do this, but the idea of doing something to please my Sunshine was important to me. Very little outside of my needs and everything that protected those needs interested me at all.

I hopped the fence into the backyard of Margaret Lawson for the second time with no fear of her suddenly showing up like last time. She was being a very naughty woman and was at a particular man’s condo, and I now wished I had a camera in Peter’s place. I was pretty sure their relationship had been going on before Kirby left for what they thought was a vacation, and I was pretty sure that Peter hoped she’d never come back.

I slipped Kirby’s key from my pocket and let myself in the back door. I’d already shut off the alarm and cameras, and even though I’d only been in here once, I knew the home. It always astounded me that people were so blasé with their information. My Sunshine hadn’t been the exception to the rule regarding this particular pandemic in society. I’d break her of the habit, just like I was starting to break through her mind and unlock the door that held her dark desires. The ones she pushed down and tried to hide. The fantasies had her downloading images of murder scenes. On the surface, her actions seemed innocent enough considering her schooling, but I knew better.

She’d cowered and looked away when I killed Barbara in front of her, but I caught her more than once watching, her eyes glazing over and a passion I recognized beginning to form. She understood the beauty of my work, and I now understood why I was drawn to her from the very beginning. Yes, her eyes were the most stunning amethyst orbs in the world, but it was deeper than that. The recognition and acceptance of my world she understood on a cellular level.

The memory of what we’d done all last night was enough to make my body shudder. She’d asked me if I could love. I honestly didn’t know. It was like saying I would cry when I’d never shed a tear. Yet, the idea of having her in my life until my end warmed me in a new way, and I liked it.

The cotton booties I’d slipped on my feet made a soft swishing noise on the carpeted floor as I slipped up the stairs to the room I was after. Kirby had another code she said was for a safe in her mother’s house, but she’d never been in it. The number was in case something ever happened to her mother. My mother didn’t have a safe, and she didn’t have a backup plan in case she died. My mother didn’t worry about things like that. No, she preferred to place all her items in a shoebox and stash it away in the closet like that was a place a criminal wouldn’t first look. I often wondered how two people of such meager intelligence ended up having me.
