Stop it.
“What I’m doing, Sunshine is schoolwork,” he said and leaned forward to set the laptop on the large metal table.
I didn’t want to look at the table too closely. The shiny metal piece was large and sturdy looking, but the draining edge and the rings that held thick leather straps made the sandwich I’d just finished want to reappear.
“You’re attending school?”
“No.”
I lifted a brow at him, and the corner of his mouth curled up, and once more, I felt like I was wearing entirely too many clothes and simultaneously not enough. My eyes traveled from his face to the screen, and my mouth dropped open as I stared at the FBI symbol in the corner.
“My school?”
“Closer. I always did like a good game of hot and cold.” He leaned his elbows on his knees to look me directly in the eyes. It took every ounce of willpower I had not to shrink away. “Try again.”
Grabbing the water, I chugged the glass down and pushed myself to my feet. I leaned closer to the screen, stepping forward as far as the arm and leg bindings would allow. My eyes grew wide as I stared at the username at the top.
“My schoolwork, you’re doing my schoolwork?” My hands balled into fists as a fresh wave of anger flooded my body with adrenaline. “That’s my work. Mine. How did you even gain access to my account?”
He didn’t answer and simply ran the tip of his tongue along his lips as his blue eyes glanced at my chest. I instantly looked down and noticed two of the buttons were open on the fuzzy pajamas he had me put on. My boobs were practically hanging out of the material, and I quickly wrapped my arms around myself to hold the material in place as the annoying heat traveled throughout my body. Cain stood, and as he did, my eyes shot back to his like a wary animal. He held up a cell phone and waved it back and forth, and my eyes followed it like a metronome.
“I’ve had access to your whole world for some time now, Kirby. You’re an exceptionally smart student, even if you hate the program.”
“I don’t hate the program,” I said, and he immediately tsked at me like I was a bad child.
“What did I say about lying to me,” he asked.
Ignoring the question, I pointed at the computer. “What do you get from this? If you want to know how close they are to catching you, then you’re not going to find much.”
He laughed. As he took a step closer, I forced myself not to retreat.
“I’m not worried about them catching me, Sunshine. No, I just happen to enjoy learning new things and seeing how stupid people are. Besides, you did arrange to do your schoolwork. It wouldn’t look very good if you didn’t hand in your assignments.”
I narrowed my eyes at him as I tried to understand the long game. There had to be one, but what was it? “I don’t believe you,” I said.
“I don’t care if you believe me, but I will tell you that I do have an ulterior motive which I’m going to keep to myself for now.” He looked at the phone and walked around the table to a cupboard. My eyes grew wide as Cain pulled out a ball gag.
“I’m not putting that on,” I said, backing away as he turned in my direction. He held it up as if it was for me to inspect. The bright purple ball swung from the leather straps from his fingers.
“I got this special for you, Sunshine. I even made sure it was made in your favorite color.”
“I don’t care what color it is. I’m not putting that on.” I pressed my lips tight together. A slight vibration started up in my body as he continued to take one slow step at a time, moving closer to me.
“Oh, I think you will. In fact, I think you’re going to turn around for me and open your mouth like a good girl so I can put this on without you causing one single bit of trouble.”
My eyes narrowed into slits as I clutched the fabric of the pajamas tighter in my fists. “Why,” I asked, but I didn’t want the answer.
“You love your father, don’t you?” My stomach dropped to the floor. No words could have affected me more. “He lives in London with his new wife and baby on the way. You were trying to go visit him, were you not?”
Warning bells were ringing loud and clear as I distinctly remembered my tickets getting canceled every time I placed the order.
“It was you. You kept canceling my tickets.”
“You do catch on quick, Sunshine. I really like that about you. Yes, I couldn’t let you fly off to London and not come back.” Cain held up his finger as I opened my mouth to speak.
“Don’t try to deny it. I know you wouldn’t have returned. I told you, Sunshine, I know you better than you even know yourself. Also, just so you know, he’s not looking for you or worrying about you. I texted him to say you’d see him after you completed school. You just decided you didn’t want to fall behind.”
My jaw twitched as I snapped my mouth closed. “Now turn around and open your mouth, or I’ll have to send my brother to visit your father. I must warn you. He’s more twisted with his ways than I am. There is no telling what body part he’d cut off first.”
