ChapterTwenty-Six
“God, I’ve missed you,” Jasper says as we tumble through the door to my hotel suite.
“That’s my line,” I retort, laughing as he starts to tug off my shirt. “Hey, I might need that.”
“Trust me. You won’t.”
“Well, if you’re certain,” I say, then strip the rest of the way. He does the same, and we race each other to the bed, then collapse on it in a tumble of laughter and kisses that quickly turn heated.
“Jasper.” I hear the need in my voice.
“I know,” he says.
“I missed you so much. Nobody called or even sent me messages. I was so lonely.” That had been protocol, just in case the few people who knew the truth were being watched. But I was the one who’d gotten the short end of the stick.
“I’ll tell you everything,” he promises. “But not now.”
He doesn’t even give me the chance to respond before he has me on my back. He kisses me, stroking my hair, my neck, my breasts. I hook my legs around his hips, then whisper, “Please.”
That’s all it takes. I’m so ready, and I arch up as he enters me, and we move together, our eyes open as if seeing each other for the first time.
“I love you,” I whisper and see his response flare in his eyes, then feel it in his kiss. And then, just as I’m on the brink of a mind-blowing orgasm, I hear him whisper those words in my ear.
“I love you too, Zelda. You’re mine.”
As if the words are a trigger, I explode in his arms, flying up and up, past the ceiling and all the way to the stars.
When I come back to earth, I don’t want to do anything except cuddle in his arms, and thankfully he feels the same.
“We do need to eat. Are you comfortable going out?”
“Ryan thinks I should wait until after the screening. We don’t know if Malloy planned something. If so, there may still be snipers for me.”
He nods. “I know. We have teams investigating. So far no whispers, but we’re on it.” He cups my cheek. “I want you safe, but I hate you being hostage.”
“It’s not much longer. And considering Malloy’s people—if there are any—probably know your role, you should probably stay here, too.”
“Trapped with you for a few more days? How will I stand it?”
I laugh, then straddle him. “I’m sure we’ll think of something.”
“And your security? Nothing dicey happen?”
“Nope. I ordered room service, read, and watched a lot of TV.”
“That sounds like a plan for the evening,” he says. “Except instead of watching TV, we can play catchup.”
Since neither of us are hungry yet, we slide back under the covers, stretched out on our sides facing each other. “Have you learned anything more?”
“A little,” he tells me. “Quincy and I did some poking around. There’s no doubt that your stepfather really was The Maestro, so we did the world a service taking him down.”
“I always knew I hated that man, and for more than just being an ass.”
“He used his diplomatic connections to run some pretty nasty enterprises, which we can talk about in more detail when we’re not naked.”
I laugh. “Fair enough. What else?”
“I finished Intercontinental. And the next one. My girlfriend knows how to write a thriller.”
