All she ever felt was pain. One time she had snuck pain medicine and a sleeping pill to try and knock herself out before they came over so she wouldn’t have to feel anything, but Edmund’s doctor friend had helped her fight off the sleeping fills, so she was still awake.

Edmund had made it worse that time.

He didn’t like the fact Rae had tried to take the fun out of everything.

“Hmm, I don’t think you’re listening to me,” he hummed. “What should I do about that?”

“I’m listening,” Rae quickly said.

“What did I say then?” He arched his perfectly groomed eyebrow.

She hated that everything looked good on him. Edmund took very good care of himself. He had said something about having to uphold a certain appearance in front of people, so they never suspected what he was doing behind closed doors.

Not that she could have done something to show them. He rarely let her outside of the house. When he did, he made sure not to hit her for a while so she didn’t have any bruises.

But that was so infrequent. She could count on one hand how many times he allowed her outside when she was with him.

“I’m waiting,” he said.

“You were talking about having your friends come over. How are you going to make them pay a pretty penny?” she parroted to him.

Raelynn had no idea if he’d said anything after that, when she got into her own head.

“You got lucky this time, but don’t expect to be later,” he said. “You’ve never been the lucky type. Unless you want to say you were lucky in meeting me. Lucky in me showing you how much I just care for you. How much I love putting my mark on your smooth skin. I’m happy to see you were taking care of yourself while you were attempting to run away. It would have been a travesty not to have your skin this smooth.”

Daddy had made sure she had everything she needed when he’d decided she was staying with him for the rest of her life. They had gone to the store after she had gotten used to hearing sound again, or as much as she could get used to it.

He had wanted her to get every little thing she might need: lotion for her whole body, lotion just for her face, hand cream, deodorant, two shampoos so that her hair didn’t get used to one, and conditioner. He had made sure that she had everything he needed, and that had only been part of the toiletry section.

It didn’t include feminine products, makeup, lip balm, towels, hand towels, washcloths, or any of her clothes. He had wanted her to get some furniture, throw pillows, and Tupperware containers so she had them while she was living there. That was when she had realized she had to put her foot down on what she would let him buy her. Because if Daddy had his way, he would buy every single thing she set her eyes on.

Daddy had also apparently done research while they had been apart for so many years. He knew which he thought would be best for her, depending on her flow. To say she was embarrassed in the store was an understatement. It seemed he knew more about the products than she did, and she was the girl.

“You’re gonna have to tell me what all you used the past several months. Your skin looks so much better than it had before, and I don’t want that to go away. I’ll have to check whether it’ll be good for you and whether the lotion will make the bruises and cuts disappear faster. We don’t want that to happen, so if it does, then we’re going to have to figure something else out,” Edmund explained. “One day, we’ll go online shopping. That way I can monitor you and make sure you don’t do anything you’re not supposed to.”

Not that he hadn’t done that before. There hadn’t been a time she wasn’t monitored with him. He was a control freak, and anything that threatened his control was automatically stopped.

“Would you like to do that soon?” he asked.

She nodded.

“Bitch.” He fisted her hair and yanked her head forward. “You know I like words. When I ask a question, you answer with words. I don’t want to see just your measly nods. I want your words. Next time, there will be consequences. Do you understand?”

“Yes, sir,” she gently said.

Edmund let go of her hair before standing. “Good. If you do anything out of line, then I’ll let my friends have their way with you, no matter how little money they’re willing to offer. So, you’d better be wise and follow everything I say to the tee.”

“I’ll try my hardest.”

He topped his chin before shaking his head. “Actually, I might take out your external processor before I let them have their way with you. You’re far more attached to that than you are worried about getting beaten.”

She kept her expression neutral, hoping she didn’t give anything away. A beating she could take and heal from, but if he took away her external processor, then she wouldn’t be able to hear anything. She would be in the dark, both audibly and in sight.

“You think I won’t, but I will. I had my men tell me how you looked when they were trying to figure out where you were. You were smiling and laughing the day you got taken. All because you can hear now,” he said. “So, that will be your next punishment when you’re extremely naughty. I think I might talk to my friend to see if we can reserve the surgery and do something to make it where you won’t be able to hear a thing ever again, no matter how advanced the technology is.”

“I promise I’ll be good,” Rae quickly said. “I won’t do anything bad.”

“ I’ll be back later with a friend. Be good and don’t try to do anything. Just sit here like the doll you are,” he said as he walked to the door.
