Two of the preppers left the house they’d been searching and headed towards the truck. Jazmine shrouded herself in shadows and snapped the barely alive victim’s neck with the coil around his neck. The body fell with a thud, drawing his colleagues’ attention.

“What was that?” one of them asked in alarm.

“I don’t know,” his friend replied uneasily. “Let’s check it out.”

Leaving the boxes of supplies they’d scavenged, they readied their guns and rushed towards the noise. Neither of them saw the razor-thin shadow made blades hanging in the air. Their heads were sliced off when they ran directly into them.

“This is fun!” Jazmine said, glad she’d thought of a new way to use her skills. She hunted down the remaining mercs, then realized how suspicious their injuries would look. “Phul will figure out Rahab didn’t kill them,” she said. Lachial already suspected that she was breaking out to murder people. He’d lock her back in the prison cell if he caught her, so she needed to cover her tracks.

Once again, Jazmine used shadows to rip the bodies apart, making them look as messy as the corpses Rahab had left behind on his rampage. When she was done, she raced back to her apartment. Lachial wasn’t there when she arrived and she let out a relieved sigh.

Unlike Rahab, she wasn’t covered in blood and guts. She didn’t have a speck of blood on her, but she washed her clothes anyway. She’d acquired a phobia of wearing dirty clothes after Merv the perv had captured her. She’d worn the same outfit for weeks after her captor’s death, since he’d kept her clothing somewhere upstairs. Killing him had saved her from being molested, but she would have starved to death if Lachial hadn’t found her.

“I’ll be sure to thank my father right before I eventually kill him,” she said, sitting down on her couch to stare at the painting of the boy dressed in blue.

Chapter Six

––––––––

RAHAB DIDN’T BOTHER to respond to Phul after his second in command informed him they’d lost yet another knight and cambion. Seething with fury, he ordered his guards to remain behind, then sped across a bridge to Queens. His ability to think was already dwindling before he sensed ten humans after he passed through the borough. Needing an outlet for his pent-up emotions, Rahab was on them before they knew danger was near.

One of the preppers shot him in the back during the fight. Rahab whirled around to behead the wretch with a swipe of his hand. The bullet was stuck in his flesh, but it would work its way out eventually. His basest instincts took over and he finally felt free again. He tore half of the humans apart, then sensed someone watching him. Spinning around, he thought he saw a flicker of movement, but no one was there. He couldn’t detect anyone on his radar, so he resumed his attack.

“More!” he snarled in a low, insane tone he barely recognized when the militants were all dead. Racing away from the bloodbath, he left a trail of scarlet shoeprints behind. He heard laughter coming from a house ahead, then sensed four people inside the building. Their happiness infuriated him. No one had the right to feel joy when the emotion was denied to him.

Far in the back of his mind, Rahab mourned GG’s absence. Her presence had given him the closest thing he’d ever found to happiness and it had all been a lie. The blonde ex-wrestler had duped him in front of his entire squad. She’d abandoned him and was now out there somewhere, probably laughing at him right now.

Rahab crashed through the front door of the house and tore it from its hinges. Screams of terror gave him the thrill he was seeking. A male sitting in a recliner to the right fumbled for his handgun. The alien moved so fast he was just a blur. He yanked the weapon out of the human’s hand, breaking his bones in the process. His fingers clamped around the pathetic victim’s throat and he squeezed hard.

Shrill screams of panic came from the two females who witnessed their friend gurgle his last breath. The second male had taken cover behind the couch. He popped up and shot at Rahab, hitting him in the chest.

Pain flared inside the commander and he roared in pure fury. The slug had hit far too close to his heart. All reason left him as he descended into the rage-monster of humanity’s worst nightmares.

Slaughtering the male with vicious abandon, body parts were strewn all over the living room by the time he was done. Both females had fled while he’d been distracted. He caught up to them as they reached a nearby garage, intending to lock themselves inside. He caught the heavy metal door they were pulling downward and shoved it back up. One of the women pointed a gun at him shakily, but he batted it out of her hands.

“Leave us alone!” the other woman screamed defiantly. She had blonde hair and blue eyes. His focus went to her and he backhanded her friend, fracturing her skull in the process.

Advancing on the cringing female, Rahab grew hard. She barely resembled GG at all, but he was in the mood for sex and she was available. Her screams were like music to his ears as he tore her clothes off. She didn’t last long as he satiated himself on her unwilling body. He smashed his fist into her face when he was done, finishing her off even though she was already unconscious and dying.

“More!” he growled, still not done with his rampage.

Rahab pulled his bloodstained pants back on, but he didn’t bother to don his shoes. His senses led him to another house where survivors were huddled together. They’d heard the screams and gunshots, but mistakenly believed they were safe. He disabused them of that notion when he smashed through the living room window and landed on the coffee table. Grinning at their screams, he ignored the cuts he’d received. He was still healing from the bullet wounds, but all of his injuries would vanish soon enough.

None of the females were blonde this time, so he tore them all apart. Rahab lost all sense of time as he obeyed his instincts to hunt and kill. His inner beast was in charge now and his rational mind was locked away deep inside his head. It was just a quiet murmur that he could easily ignore.

Another group of Creel Lawson’s preppers came within range of his radar when he searched for more victims. He veered towards them and pounced.

“It’s Rahab!” one of the troopers shouted in disbelief. “He’s gone crazy!”

The merc reached for his walky-talky, but Rahab snatched it out of his hand. Crushing it with his fist, he punched the prepper in the throat, killing him instantly. The mercenaries scattered and turned to shoot. One by one, the alien took them all down, this time without receiving any injuries. None of them had managed to get the word out that he was responsible for the attack on their unit.

Rahab wasn’t capable of planning when he was in this state, but his instincts knew how to keep him alive and to cover his ass. The Soldier of Chaos lived up to his creator’s name as he continued his slaughter. Hours passed and his uncontrollable thirst for blood still didn’t end.

Dawn light was filtering through the trees that lined the shore when reason began to return to Rahab. Balls deep inside a female, he continued to thrust, feeling his climax coming. His gaze ran up her malnourished, dirt-covered body, then met the glazed and unseeing eyes of the corpse he was rutting with.

Disgust replaced his lust and his shaft went limp. Her flesh was beginning to cool. He had the horrible feeling she’d already been dead before he’d begun to fornicate with her.

Rahab sensed one of his minions nearby and his back stiffened. Looking over his shoulder, he saw Phul watching him through the trees. His second in command’s expression reflected his horror at what he’d just witnessed.
