Please don’t leave.
When she nods against me and smiles, the relief I feel is probably outsized considering the fact that she’s half naked on my lap and we’ve spent the last couple hours revealing all manner of deep secrets, but it’s there anyway.
“Hot damn,” I say with a grin, leaning in to kiss her. “The prettiest, most badass girl on the block wants me. This is the best day of my life.”
Caitlin snorts, bringing her hands up to either side of my neck, her fingers playing with the ends of my hair. “A little dry humping and he goes all dramatic on me.”
I kiss her nose, flashing her a grin. “A lot of very intense and amazing dry humping. And I’m always dramatic. It’s part of my charm.”
When she rolls her eyes, it makes me grin. “So fucking charming. So I finally had an orgasm with another human and you came in your pants. What happens now?”
Threading my fingers through her hair, I lean in and kiss her again. I can’t stop fucking kissing her. “Whatever you want.”
“Anything?” she asks, eyes bouncing between mine.
I nod. “Literally anything.”
Sitting up, she gives me a wicked grin. “Well, it seems pretty unfair that I’m sitting here topless and you’re still all dressed and everything. And it’s such a shame to cover up everything you have going on under there.”
She waves a hand in my general direction, and I grin because playful Caitlin is my favorite Caitlin. Who am I even kidding? Every Caitlin is my favorite Caitlin. Every single part of this gorgeous, complex, wonder of a woman is my favorite. Without missing a beat, I sit up slightly and whip off my shirt, tossing it to the floor on top of hers. When her eyes rake over me, flashing with heat, my dick immediately gets interested again despite the fact that I came five minutes ago and the evidence of that is currently drying in my boxers. “Like what you see, Princess?”
She rolls her eyes. “You know what you look like.”
Delighted, I wrap my arms around her and tug her into my chest, loving the way she curls into me. “Okay, here’s the plan. I take a quick shower to deal with the…situation in my pants, and I bring down one of my sweatshirts so you can get comfortable, and because I have a feeling seeing you in my clothes is going to be the greatest moment of my life—” I glance at her tits and then back up at her. “Second greatest moment,” I amend, grinning when she snickers. “Then I’ll take out the six different kinds of ice cream I have in my freezer and a couple of spoons, and we spend the rest of the night on the couch watching Morgan Freeman’s illustrious turn as Speaker of the House Allan Trumbull.”
Caitlin’s eyes light up. “You know Olympus Has Fallen?”
I kiss her hair. “Know it. Love it. Seen it a million times.”
She narrows her eyes at me. “What happens when it’s time to sleep?”
I shrug, gliding a hand up and down her back. “I can take you home if that’s what makes you more comfortable, but what I would really like to do is lay you down in my bed and wrap my arms around you and see if maybe it’s easier to sleep when you’re next to me.”
I say it casually, but I mean the words. Sleep hasn’t come easily to me since I was eight years old, but I think maybe, with her, it could be different. I could be different. And somehow, she seems to understand because she takes my free hand in hers and, with her eyes fixed on mine, presses a kiss to the back of it. And when her lips tip up into a small smile and she says “Okay,” it’s the sweetest moment I’ve ever had.
CHAPTER NINETEEN
CAITLIN
“You busy?”
I look up from my desk at my mom’s voice, wincing at the ache in my shoulders that tells me I’ve been hunched over these trust documents for far too long. A glance at the clock on my computer confirms it.
I shake my head, stretching my arms out in front of me to loosen my tight muscles. “Not anymore. I could definitely use a break.”
Smiling, my mom strolls into my office and plops down in the chair across from my desk. “I was hoping you would say that because a break just arrived in the form of a six-foot-two wide receiver who seems pretty eager to get up here to see you.”
“Drew’s here?” I ask quickly. Way too quickly judging by the smug look that crosses my mom’s face, but I don’t have time to deal with that right now because I’m too busy combating the swarm of butterflies invading my stomach. I snatch a couple pens from the ever-present pile nearby, the familiar shape of them calming my raging nerves.
Grabbing a mini-Snickers from the bowl on my desk, she opens it and pops it into her mouth. “He came in a couple minutes ago saying something about checking with you on the progress of his trust, but I happen to know you sent him the drafts a week ago, and I can see a man fishing for an excuse to see a girl from a mile away. Molly and Jules are distracting him with a million questions so I could come up here and find out if you wanted to see him or if I should tell him you’re busy.”
“You would do that?” I ask before I can stop the words.
My mom studies me for a beat like she’s looking for something I’m not quite sure I want her to see. “You’re my daughter, Cait. One of the most important people in my world. I would do anything for you, including telling that very good looking and extremely smitten football player to get the fuck out of here if that’s what you wanted me to do.”
I take a sip of my Sprite to clear my suddenly dry throat. “Smitten?” I manage.
My mom grins at me. “Totally smitten. His face lit up like a damn Christmas tree when he said your name. No one gets that excited to come see their lawyer. Also, there’s the little matter of the game on Sunday and him staring at you from the field like you would disappear if he looked away. And the fact that you went home with him after.”
