“Yes,” Chaol breathed. “I’m yours. Always.”

Daniel softened, kissing him sweetly. “Being alone sucks no matter where you are, huh?”

Chaol hummed. He’d had his fill of being alone, and if he had his way now, he never would be again. “I’ll play nice with the leviathans,” he promised. Staying on Daniel’s good side was more important than avenging Amon.

“Are you sure? You don’t have to be around them if it’s too hard.”

Chaol tugged on Daniel’s hip to make him move more. “I’ll endure, because I want to be wherever you are. And they’re your friends.”

“Eh.” Daniel shrugged one shoulder. His hips snapped forward. “Acquaintances, really.”

Chaol laughed. “Good to know. Fuck, keep doing that.” His cock was thickening against his belly, and every grinding thrust of Daniel’s cock made it fill further.

Those deep, glowing eyes drank him in. “As you wish. You’re stuck with me now. If I don’t have you, I’ll raze the world to the ground.”

“So dark,” Chaol whispered teasingly. “Such danger.”

Daniel pinched his side, and when Chaol tried to squirm away, Daniel just dragged him closer, slamming his cock in deep and making Chaol cry out.

“You’re so much fucking stronger than me now,” Chaol moaned, wrapping his legs tightly around Daniel’s trim waist.

“All the better to hold you close with.”

Chaol didn’t have the breath to reply, losing himself in the undulation of their bodies.

Chapter 16

Daniel

Pain. Intense pain in his neck, and a jarring fall to an unforgiving floor.

Slippery fluid on fingers that were too weak to apply pressure.

Screaming. Someone he desperately loved, screaming his name.

Chaol? No. Someone from before.

Family.

Brother.

Nicolas.

He turned his head, and there he was. Nicolas. Held back by the hooded Ashmedai. Screaming Daniel’s name, struggling to get to him. Everything blurred, then darkened.

Nicolas was the last thing he saw before it all went dark.

Daniel woke with a pitiful sound, muffled against Chaol’s chest. His face was wet, and he panted breathlessly, clinging hard to his demon. The house around them was quiet, dim light sneaking in through the edges of the heavy curtains. It was sometime early in the morning. They couldn’t have been asleep for long.

“It’s okay,” Chaol murmured, mouthing at Daniel’s jaw with just enough teeth for the pain to ground him in the now. “It was just a dream.”

No, Daniel thought, it was a memory. He turned his head, capturing Chaol’s lips and kissing until his shuddering subsided and he thought he would be able to speak.

“I remember,” he rasped. “I remember how I died.”

Chaol softened, thumbing the wetness from his cheeks. “Do you want to talk about it?”

Daniel nodded slowly. “You remember I told you we went to rescue a couple of kids the paladins had kidnapped?”
