“What?” Basher asked innocently.

“You make it sound like getting shot is some grand romantic gesture.”

Basher shrugged. “Maybe it is.”

Cameron snorted. “Most guys bring flowers.”

“Flowers die.”

“And apparently so do boyfriends who insist on body-blocking bullets.”

Basher chuckled softly, then brought Cameron’s hand to his lips and kissed the back of it.

“Good thing I’m too stubborn to die.”

Cameron smiled and leaned forward, resting his forehead against Basher’s.

“You better be. Because I’m planning on annoying you for the next sixty years, big guy.”

Basher’s eyes softened.

“Sounds perfect to me, babe.”

“Jesus, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit,” a mocking voice announced from the doorway.

They both turned toward the door and watched as Marcus and Bradly, Basher’s old boss from the Death Cruisers MC, walked in together.

“Jealous?” Marcus said, giving his old friend a welcoming smile.

“Of what? Your near-death flirting?” Bradly shot back. “Hard pass. Some of us prefer our romance without the bullet holes.”

Basher chuckled.

“What are you doing here?”

“This man came to pay us a visit out in the desert and explained what happened to you. So, of course, the boys and I hopped on our bikes and drove down to see you right away.” Bradly stopped at the other side of his bed and gripped his arm. “How are you feeling, buddy?”

Basher shrugged.

“I’ve had better days.” The guys in the room laughed. “But I’ve got great nurses and people caring for me.” Basher held up Cameron’s hand. He hadn’t mentioned to his boss that he had started seeing someone, but it was clear as shit that the two of them were together.

Bradly extended his hand toward Cameron.

“You must be the brave young man who saved our Basher from the Caplan crew. It takes one hard-ass son of a bitch to break through this man’s walls and capture his heart. It’s nice to meet you, son. You two make a handsome couple.”

Cameron glanced down at Basher as he shook his boss’s hand.

“I think we both managed to break through each other’s walls and found what we’d both been missing all along,” Cameron stated.

Basher still couldn’t believe that someone like Cameron wanted to be with him.

“So, what happened with Caplan?” Basher asked, speaking of the devil.

“Well, Marcus and his guys brought Tony to us. Then we arranged a sit-down with Caplan Sr. and basically told him that if he didn’t end this and control his son, our two clubs were going to crush his crew. The man was pissed but agreed to rein in his son. He also said that the hit on you had been canceled and that no harm would come to you if you decided to return to Vegas.”

Bradly looked at Basher and Cameron both.

“But I’m getting the sense that you might not be interested in coming home?”
