Cameron nodded against his chest.

“Thank you.” He sniffled.

Not wanting to break their connection or lose the feeling of Cameron’s warmth pressed up against his body, Basher forced himself to pull away.

He needed to check the rest of the apartment. For all he knew, there could be a man standing right behind him with a gun pointed directly at his head.

Who was he kidding? After all his years in prison, he had gotten good at being aware of his surroundings and being able to spot when someone was sneaking up on him. Except for that one time in the shower, but there had been water running and soap in his eyes.

Any man would have taken one to the gut in that situation.

“I need to check the rest of the apartment,” Basher said, placing his hands on the young man’s shoulders and staring into his eyes. “You’re going to be fine waiting here in the living room.”

Cameron nodded, his body still trembling.

Poor guy. He was going to make whoever was after Cameron suffer for what he was doing to the man he cared about.

Basher pulled the gun from his back pocket, then began tearing through Cameron’s apartment, searching for whoever was going to die that night.

Nobody threatened his guy and got away with it.

Once Basher had finished checking the place and determined there were no threats present, he came out of Cameron’s bedroom carrying a duffel bag and his toothbrush in both hands.

“Grab anything else you need. You’re staying at my place,” Basher growled.

Cameron quickly sifted through the duffel bag Basher had given him and spotted something unusual hidden beneath his shirts. He picked up the item and held it in front of Basher with two of his fingers.

Dangling between his fingers was one of his favorite jockstraps. Cameron looked up at Basher with a questioning smirk.

“What?” Basher asked, his cheeks quickly heating. “I like the way they look on you.”

Chuckling, Cameron tossed the underwear back into the bag and zipped it up.

He quickly grabbed his laptop and cell phone charger, then headed toward the door.

Before Cameron could open the door, Basher stuck his arm out in front of him and held him back protectively.

“Let me check first.”

Basher stuck his head out the door to make sure the coast was clear.

“Okay, let’s go,” Basher instructed, stepping out the door first before waiting for Cameron to finish locking up.

When they were down on the street, Basher glanced up and down the road around them.

Nothing looked out of the ordinary.

Helping Cameron onto the back of his bike, he flicked on his Bluetooth, then made a quick call to Marcus.

He informed Marcus of the situation, the threats made, and that he was taking Cameron to his house for his own protection.

They agreed to meet the next day at Ride ’em Hard to discuss their next move.

“Do you think we’re safe here?” Cameron asked as they walked through the front door.

They hadn’t been followed.

Basher had done a few extra loops on their way over, taking note of every car, every lingering stare, every suspicious person watching them as they rode by. None of them seemed to follow. None of them seemed interested beyond the thirty seconds it took to ride past.
