I wrap my arms underneath her.

I hold her to me. Chest to chest.

Our breaths slow.

Our hearts steady.

And I inhale.

Air fills my lungs, and it feels like the first time I’ve breathed.

The first time I’ve tasted oxygen.

And for the first time in two days, my mind starts to clear.

I called him my mate.

And it felt right.

It still feels right to think it, even though I don’t know exactly what that means.

This dangerous, ancient creature. This hot-as-hells male.

His head is lowered, and his lips are still pressed against my neck.

My thoughts start to slow.
