“She’s alive.”
He nods once.
And because Noel understands me better than most people—he knows that's all I can say right now.
The rest of the team arrives minutes later.
Jack.
Ego.
Kai.
All business.
All serious.
Which means they're just as pissed as I am.
Kai glances through the doorway.
Sees Amanda snuggled on the small sofa inside her dressing room.
Her friend is still in there with her. But she’s on a separate chair now, working on her laptop.
I follow Kai’s glance and find my Rusty sleeping softly. My eyes roam over her lovingly, worshipping every inch of her.
Exhaustion won out after the adrenaline rush—and I don’t blame her one bit. I wish I was curled up on that sofa with her.
But I’ve got work to do. I need to find this motherfucker.
Now.
Kai nods to me.
“Firecracker would murder me if I bugged Amanda while she's sleeping, so tell her Mary says hi.”
Despite myself, I smile.
“Will do.”
“Does anybody know who we're unaliving yet?” Ego asks.
“Working on it,” Noel says.
“Damn.”
Jack folds his arms.
“Shame. I brought the three-ply body bags with me.”
Someone snorts.
I just shrug.
Because I know whoever did this won’t be leaving in a body bag.
There won’t be enough left of him for that.
