as I stared at my father.

What was he talking about?

The room erupted in whispers.

‘All four of these children

to the reign of the Titans.’

My mind was reeling.

It felt like the very ichor

inside my body wanted to run.

‘According to this prophecy,

she must have a fearless consort,

a God of might unlike any other.

And so, I decree the hand of

my oldest daughter be given to Pallas,

God of Might and Weaponry.’

Applause Broke Out Through the Halls

It was as if the very air inside me

had died and all that was left

was an abyss of confusion.

I stared at my father’s face

as he steadfastly looked at the audience.

How could he do this?

How could he expect me to marry

this God I had only just met?

We had not exchanged five sentences.

I looked to Pallas but he was

surrounded by well-wishers.

His brother offered me a kind smile

in his stead. Did Perses already know?

Did no one think to inform me?
