Each one was bright and gleaming
silver unlike the golden Titans.
Even from here, I could feel their rage;
I could feel their sheer power.
Zeus made his way to the thrones,
the five strange Gods following behind him.
Oceanus scowled, his voice rising.
‘Who enters my home without permission?’
Zeus had a smirk on his bearded face
as he responded to this with hubris.
‘The children of Kronos, Titan.
The same ones you left to be devoured.’
A shocked murmur swept across the deities.
Zeus raised his voice, thunder roaring.
‘Did you think you would not have to atone
for abandoning us within the darkness?’
From the Corner of My Eye
I saw Perses’s fists clench.
I saw Pallas hold Zelus close,
the boy clutching his robes.
A palpable fear hung in the air.
Leto took my other hand,
and as I looked into her eyes
I saw it there, the mirror of my thoughts.
We should have told them.
We should not have left
such a task to Metis alone.
She may have failed us,
but we had failed her first.
Oceanus finally spoke out loud.
