He closely studied her reactions. Every intake of breath. What made her gasp and dig her nails deeper into the bedsheets. And when he dipped his long finger inside her, stars lit behind her eyes.

“Takeshi,” she exhaled, her voice trembling. “I can’t…I can’t take it.”

“You can. And you will.”

He hit a new spot that sent so much pleasure crashing through her body, her muscles clenched, and she cried out. But he tightened his grip around her shaking legs, holding her like he’d never get to again.

By the time she finished convulsing, Takeshi stood, the evidence of her release on his lips.

“Come here,” she whispered, out of breath. She held out her arms, wanting to give him the same feeling he gave her.

But Takeshi’s brows drew together, his chest rising and falling rapidly. His gaze flickered with some inexplicable emotion as she reached for him. Like he wanted nothing more than to go to her.

But he didn’t move.

“Takeshi,” she repeated, feeling him slip away.

His eyes burned, a deeper pain flickering beneath his expression. Without another word, he left the room.

And shut the door firmly behind him.

The more sense you try to make of the world, the more crazy it will make you.

He left her.

What kind of man gives a girl the best orgasm of her life and walks away after?

Takeshi went down to his knees and made her come apart more than any other man. She’d finally thought they hit a breakthrough.

But the only thing breaking was her ability to handle his bullshit.

She yanked her hair into a messy bun, roughly pulling on the strands until her scalp burned. Khalani had no idea how she was going to face him without every single person knowing what had happened last night.

What she’d practically begged him to do.

He was the one who’d come to her room and allowed himself to be vulnerable. Shared things he never would’ve if he truly considered her his enemy. But she was tired of him getting close, only to walk away whenever it suited him.

From that point on, she was going to give Takeshi Steele the same cold treatment.

Khalani took a deep breath, smoothing her hands down her tan garments, preparing to face the world. But as soon as she stepped out of the bedroom, she was tackled.

“Do you have any idea how hard it’s been not to break down that door and smack you for driving us crazy with worry?” Serene rasped, enveloping her in a crushing hug, squeezing her ribs to the point of pain.

Adan and Elise rounded the corner, sighing in relief as Khalani hugged Serene just as tightly.

“I looked for you when we got back, but the Chief said you went out searching for us. Why did you do that?” Khalani yelled.

“To save both of your crazy asses!” Serene threw her hands up in exasperation. “I was this close to banging your door down, but Brock carried me away like a Neanderthal, saying you needed to sleep. He freaking wouldn’t let me go until I promised not to go into your room.”

Khalani glanced at Brock, who stood against the doorway. It was strange how he looked at Serene. Half annoyed and half infatuated, like if he had a choice to change her personality—to make her more docile and sweet—he wouldn’t change a damn thing.

Brock turned just as Takeshi stepped out of the bathroom with wet hair and a white towel hanging low on his hips. Unable to help herself, her gaze roved down his sculpted chest. Drops of liquid dripped over his six pack as he shook his hair.

Words got stuck in her throat.

Everything they’d done came rushing back. How he’d made her feel…and how he’d walked away after.
