Dominic had been skating near the edge of his own release, and the feeling of Onyx’s cock spilling over his, and the sound of Onyx’s gasp against his mouth, pushed him over the edge. He groaned as his cum joined Onyx’s and covered the younger witch’s hand, then he pressed in for a lingering kiss in the wake of their release.

Onyx stayed there for a moment, kissing back even though it was more faltering, softer, in the wake of it all. Then he pulled back and mumbled, “I need to go clean my hand… I’ll be right back.”

Dominic was loath to let Onyx go, even for a second. But the younger witch had done well, and he was equally loath to have things go sour at this point, so he let Onyx pull away from him with only mild resistance.

He stayed in bed, curious if the younger witch would rejoin him after cleaning off his hand.

Perhaps Onyx’s time alone had done him well after all.

They’d see.

Chapter 29

Onyx

Onyx fled.

As much as he’d have liked to say he’d walked calmly away from the bed, it would’ve been a lie, and there was no sense in pretending.

Still, despite how quickly he’d abandoned Dominic, he didn’t linger long in the bathroom. He dampened a cloth and cleaned himself off instead of showering like he ordinarily would have, then returned with halting steps.

His gaze was wary as he turned it on to Dominic, and he carefully made his way across the room.

What had he just done?

As soon as he slid back into bed, Dominic gathered him against his chest with a satisfied hum. “You did well,” he said.

The words gave him pause. Had he done well? He’d focused primarily on his own pleasure, not Dominic’s — even though Dominic had certainly gotten pleasure out of it as well. The kisses had been surprisingly nice, and being able to touch his own cock had been good as well.

And he hadn’t had to have anything in his ass.

Had it been a worthwhile tradeoff?

“Thanks.” Onyx took in a deep breath and let it out slowly.

Moments passed, and he squirmed, finding it difficult to just lie there in Dominic’s arms in the wake of what had just happened. But this was something he needed to claim, too, and he knew the other witch would be annoyed if he tried to put distance between them after something like that.

“Astronomy lesson tonight,” Dominic reminded Onyx softly after several minutes. “And warehouse tomorrow.”

Onyx nodded, then he said haltingly, “Thank you. I’m looking forward to the warehouse.”

Dominic hummed. “You have things to practice now, don’t you?”

Onyx nodded again. “She wants me to pay attention to how I’m casting things. I’ve just sort of always… made it happen. I don’t know if it’s flowing or appearing or what. I taught myself most of what I know, and—” He cut himself off. “Anyway, I’m supposed to tell her how I make things happen so she can relate it to my own magic better.”

“Useful things to know, though more so for witches of lower magical strengths, where maximizing power can be essential at times,” Dominic murmured.

If Onyx ever wanted to kill Dominic — which was not something that he’d completely given up on — he’d have to keep in mind that the witch was powerful enough to where those principles probably didn’t apply. He’d really need his own magic, and he’d need to do more than act swiftly; he’d have to throw everything he had at Dominic in one strike and overwhelm his defenses completely.

Dominic’s ability to send pain coursing through him wasn’t something he could easily forget.

What would he do if Dominic fucked up the next day? If he caught sight of the other witch and he had the opportunity to attack? Would he take it, knowing that he’d be killed for it after, but also knowing he’d have the satisfaction of having taken out a Bancroft witch along the way? This Bancroft witch?

He didn’t know.

“She thinks I can learn to be more precise and not use so much power every time, yeah,” Onyx voiced aloud.

Dominic hummed his agreement. “She is likely correct. You are powerful, likely one of the strongest elemental abilities in a generation, but you burn yourself out quickly. With precision, you could take out armies instead of a quarter of a city block.”
