“You’re serious?” The fact that she even has to ask lets me know I still have a lot of work to do until she believes me.
“Dead serious, honey bee,” I tell her, smiling and bringing the back of her hand up to my mouth to kiss. “Will you come home and let me prove to you how much I love you?”
Georgie looks around the room and when her eyes meet mine, they’re still a little hesitant. “I want to come home, but I can’t just quit my job and uproot my life again,” she says, her eyes wandering around the room. “They’ve treated me really well here and I don’t want to leave them in a lurch without a really good reason.”
“My loving you not reason enough?” I ask, trying to hide my disappointment.
“Its reason enough,” she says, standing and gathering her flowers. “I’m just…” She trails off and I stand up and go to her, gathering her in my arms. As her head tilts up to mine, I catch a bit of her cinnamon sugar smell. Even in a dive bar she still smells like my girl. “I’m worried you’ll change your mind again,” she confesses, her voice low.
Fuck. I really put my foot in it this time, but I can make it right. I will make it right. Warring with myself about whether I should just throw her over my shoulders and make her come home or respect her wishes, I ultimately decide on the latter. Patience has been my ally so far, and I don’t want to blow it.
“Then I’ll just have to prove to you how serious I am,” I say, leaning down and kissing her forehead. Reaching into my pocket, I pull out the bracelet I made for her and slip it over her wrist. “You forgot something when you left. You may not have had my bracelet with you, but you had my heart, Georgie, and you always will. I’ll see you soon, honey bee.”
I turn to leave, but Georgie stops me with a hand on my arm. “Wyatt,” she says, a small, sweet smile on her face. “I love you too. Just so you know.”
I clutch a hand to my heart as if trapping her words there forever and smile at her. “Thank you, honey bee. I won’t let you down. I promise. Text me when you get home so I know you’re safe.” She nods and I turn to the door, shooting one last grin at Georgie over my shoulder before I’m in front of the bouncer again. Whipping open my wallet, I pull out a few hundred dollar bills and pass it over to him. “Keep an extra eye on my girl, will you?”
“No payment necessary for that,” he tells me, but he shoves the money in his pockets anyway, grinning at me. “But money is money.”
“Have a good night,” I tell him, making my way back to my car to start the long ride home. Leaving Georgie doesn’t feel right, but as I do, I make a plan to show her again and again how much I love her and plan on being there for her. Now, and for the rest of our lives.
Chapter Six
~Georgie~
Watching Wyatt walk away last night was tough. I wanted nothing more than to pull the words saying I couldn’t leave back in my mouth and beg him to take me home, but I meant what I said. What if he changes his mind again? I don’t think I can handle that and besides, the owners of The Angry Cock have been good to me, gave me a job when no one else would and have treated me right.
Even Scarlett was surprised to find out just how friendly and protective they are when she came up to see me yesterday. I thought we would spend the whole day hanging out like we used to, but she insisted on seeing the place I work and so we got dressed up and went to the bar. She flirted with the bouncer, Thumper, but he’s married to a nice man and he wasn’t giving her a whole lot to work with beyond his general politeness. We didn’t stay long, Scarlett once again complaining about not being able to find a man to handle her, so we ended up back at my little apartment for some pizza and a movie.
When the time came for her to drive back home, she didn’t want to go and I didn’t want her to leave, but we eventually managed a goodbye. Scarlett isn’t the only Landry I’ve heard from though. Wyatt texted me early yesterday.
Wyatt: Good morning, honey bee. Thanks for letting me know you got home safely. As much as I want to drive over and see you right now, I promised my baby sister she could have you all to herself. Have fun today and I’ll see you tomorrow.
Georgie: Thank you.
I stared at my lame reply for a good five minutes, but I didn’t know what else to say. When Wyatt showed up at my work the night before, I didn’t know what to think. When he explained what happened the night of my birthday, I almost didn’t believe him.
He’s so handsome and smart, and I didn’t think much of myself before, so his actually wanting to kiss me and even loving me was hard to grasp. One look into his beautiful brown eyes showed me how wrong I was. There was nothing but love and affection shining back at me, and the part of my heart that was broken months ago started to heal a little bit.
Believing Wyatt was also easier because I’ve changed a bit over the last few months. One nice thing about having to rely on myself and no one else since I moved here is that I’ve come to realize that I’m actually pretty strong, resilient even. Sure, sometimes I feel a little beaten down and I miss my family, but I still make it through the day.
Also, if the way some of the customers flirt with me is any indication, I’m not half bad looking either. I’ve embraced my curves a little more each day, even going so far as to wearing the shortest shorts I could find in order to up my tip game.
Even now as I pull on my uniform and get ready for another shift, I can take a look at myself in the mirror and kind of see what Wyatt means when he says I’m beautiful. My hair is long and thick, my eyes are bright, and my curves are the kind some women would die for. I may be more lumpy than not, but I like that it will give Wyatt something to hold on to when we’re together.
Thinking of Wyatt and me that way has me flushing, my skin turning hot and a light sweat breaking out over my brow. As much as he hurt me that night, my attraction to him never wavered. He’s still the most handsome man I have ever known, and seeing him again yesterday confirmed that.
I’m not even ashamed to admit that I came home last night and touched myself to the image of him, all dressed up in a button down and slacks, looking like all my dreams come true. When I came, it was with his face and body in my mind and his name on my lips. It wasn’t the first time I’ve gotten off while thinking of Wyatt, and it definitely won’t be the last.
Pushing those lustful thoughts aside, I finish getting ready for work, making sure to slip the bracelet Wyatt returned to me over my wrist. It’s the best present I’ve ever been given, and I’m so happy to have it back. Once I’m finished, I take one last look in the mirror and when I’m confident in my look, I head out of the bedroom to grab my purse and keys.
The drive to work is short enough, and soon I’m parking my little sedan and heading inside through the employee entrance. After clocking in, I say a quick hello to some of the other girls as I tie on my apron and head out to start my shift.
As soon as I’m out the door to the bar, I almost run into a wall of man. “Holy crap,” I exclaim, clutching my chest. When my eyes focus on who is in front of me, my mouth drops open. It’s Wyatt. He’s dressed the same as he usually is in jeans, a t-shirt, and his cowboy hat, but he somehow looks even better than before. Maybe it’s because the smile on his face looks a lot less joking and a lot more genuine. Either way, he is one good looking man, a very tall man that I wouldn’t mind climbing right about now.
I feel my cheeks turn pink and Wyatt’s smile widens into a knowing grin. “Like what you see, honey bee.” I shrug a shoulder, my tongue too thick in my mouth to form words. He steps forward and gathers me into his arms and kisses the top of my head.
“For the record, you look hot as fuck and I’d love nothing more than to take you back home and show you everything I’ve been wanting to do to you for the last year.”
