“Money sent?” Miguel asks.
“Yep. Already transferred,” Rhett says coolly.
“Take her,” Miguel says, throwing a plain black dress at me. I quickly pull it on, and Rhett grabs my arm to pull me out of the room. I keep my head down and drag my feet as he takes me, so I look scared and reluctant. As we get outside, he opens the back door of an SUV I don’t recognize, and shoves me into the back. He casually gets in and drives off. Jett is sitting in the floorboard with his knees to his chest and his head down. When we get far enough away, I lay on the back seat and place my head on his shoulder.
“We’re okay,” I whisper. Jett lifts his head to look at me and has tears in his eyes. He nods once and lays his cheek against my head.
We stay like this for the entire drive. Rhett is driving us in circles to make sure we aren't being followed. I don’t want to think about anything else right now. I just know we are safe, and Bodhi is alive. Rhett would have told me if he wasn’t.
I have a feeling that either Luke or Kate is hiding in this vehicle somewhere, and that’s how Jett got out. When we stop, and the door at my feet opens, Rhett gently scoops me into his arms. I lift my head and see Luke and Kate helping Jett out, so I relax.
“Is Bodhi…” I start to ask quietly.
“He’s okay,” Rhett says. “Are you?”
“Very sore. And tired. Jett…” I say.
“Needs some rest,” Rhett says as he carries me into the house.
“Oh my God, is she…” I hear Bodhi start, but Rhett shushes him.
“She’s okay, Bodhi,” Rhett says. “You should be resting.”
“Bite me,” Bodhi grumbles, and I laugh sleepily. “Take them upstairs to my room. It will help keep her cool so she can sleep.”
“You get your ass up here and rest, too,” Kate commands from behind us. “Now.”
“Yes ma’am,” Bodhi mutters mockingly.
“I’m filthy,” I mutter.
“Kate. Luke. Can you help me clean them up?”
“Yeah,” Kate says.
“Sit them on the bench,” Bodhi says.
“Take your ass over to that bed and sit down. You got fucking shot, Bodhi,” Kate scolds him again. “She’s okay. Just let us get them comfortable, and you can cuddle her. Okay?”
“Okay,” Bodhi sighs.
Jett and I are placed in the shower. Rhett and Kate help clean me, since I have the injuries, and Luke helps Jett. When we are clean, I am put in one of Bodhi’s shirts, and they just have Jett put on boxers so we can be laid down. For a moment, I am facing Bodhi, but then I hear the most heartbreaking sob come out of Jett.
“You’re okay,” Bodhi says when I look up at him. I roll to my other side and urge Jett to face me. When he does, I wrap him in a hug and hold him close to my chest. He falls apart into sobs as his body shakes, and I can even hear Kate sniffing back tears as we all move through the emotions of this.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” Jett cries.
“Jett,” I say, gently lifting his face to look at me. “You saved us, Jett. We’re okay. We’re home.”
Bodhi snuggles in close behind me and kisses my shoulder. By the time his breathing finally evens out, Jett falls asleep in my arms. I can hear Bodhi snoring softly behind me. When I glance up, Rhett has passed out in a chair he has pulled close to the edge of the bed behind Jett. Kate and Luke are sitting on the little love seat, and smile at me.
“I’m glad you’re okay,” Kate says quietly.
“Sleep, Liv. We are all right here,” Luke says. I nod and relax into the bed, letting myself fall asleep finally.
