“So now what?”

“I train you. I’ll help you with what you have planned, and that’s it.”

“So no more deal?”

“Kenz,” he says, shaking his head and lowering his hand. I reach for it, grab it in mine and bring it back to my cheek. Storm watches me intently before he sighs.

“You made me feel things, Storm, things I didn’t want to feel. You can’t back out on me now.”

“This won’t work, Kenzee.”

“It could work. If you just tried with me.”

“Is that really what you want? You want to worry about me the way you did your dad?” He asks. My heart shatters once more. He’s right. I don’t know that I can handle that, but I also don’t want to lose him either. Another tear slides down my cheek as I watch him.

“What kind of life am I living if I’m miserable all the time?” I ask him. He licks his lips and leans down, pressing his lips to mine.

“What kind of life are you livin’ if you’re afraid all the time?”

“You’re the first real thing I’ve felt in a long time, Storm.”

“I won’t be the last,” he says.

“You want me to beg, Storm? Is that what this is?” He grins at me and shakes his head.

“No.”

“Please. If this doesn’t work out, then fine. Just please don’t push me away right now.” I see his eyes flicker with emotions that I’ve never seen in him before.

“Fuck, Kenzee.”

“Please, Storm.”

“Fine. You wanna try this? Let’s try this. But I make no fuckin’ promises. You know the shit I have to do,” he reminds me. I nod my head right before he pulls me into his arms and holds me against him.

“You’re gonna be the death of me.” I don’t let his words stir anything else inside of me. In fact, I ignore them altogether and just let the feeling of him holding me take over.

Chapter 11

Storm

“That’s one of them,” I tell her as we sit back and watch the motherfuckers. Kenzee stays close to my side just like I told her to, and I like her being there. Probably more than I should.

“Piece of shit,” she grumbles under her breath, causing me to smile. I see the woman come out of the store seconds before Kenzee moves. I reach for her, but it’s too late, she’s already on the move, rushing toward them.

“Fuck,” I grumble under my breath as I stand from my position and jog behind her. It’s no use. She already has the girl by the hair, spinning her to face her. Her hand pulls back, and her fist slams into her eye before she does it again. The man moves toward them, but I pull my gun and step closer, aiming it at him.

“Not a good idea,” I tell him. He glances at me and then over at where his old lady is getting her ass handed to her by Kenzee. And when I say she beats her ass? That’s exactly what she’s doing to her. She’s pounding the fuck out of her.

“What the fuck is this about?” The man roars as I keep my gun aimed at him. When the woman is knocked out on the ground, Kenzee turns to him next. I step closer, knowing that she can’t take him on, but wondering what the hell she’s about to do anyway.

“You motherfuckers…you took something from me, and I’m going to return the goddamn favor.”

“What the fuck are you talkin’ about bitch?” A growl leaves my throat when he says that but Kenz doesn’t back down. In fact, she steps closer to him. My nerves are firing off one by one, ready to explode at a moment's notice, but in the back of my head, I know this is all fucked up. If the prez catches wind of this, there’s going to be hell to pay for not only me but also Kenzee.

“You heard me. You stole something from me, something I’ll never get back, and I’m going to make sure that every single one of you pays for that,” she hisses at him before reaching up and slapping him across the face. That’s his breaking point. He slaps Kenzee so hard that she falls to the ground.

I shove my gun into the back of my jeans and then tackle his ass to the ground. I beat the shit out of him until I hear the sirens off in the distance.
