Their Lakeview office would’ve fit in a corner of this place.
Different building.
Same job.
Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Clint Davis’s office overlooked downtown Seattle. The city stretched in every direction beyond the glass, the late afternoon sun catching the windows of the surrounding high-rises.
Axel smiled to himself. He’d always liked working cases in Seattle.
The coffee wasn’t bad either.
The deputy U.S. marshal wore a three-piece suit that made him want to roll his eyes.
Boone had warned them to dress accordingly. For Axel, that meant black slacks and a blue button-down dress shirt.
Whip had picked the shirt.
Said it matched his eyes.
He’d worn it without arguing.
Boone stepped forward first.
“Clint.”
Clint Davis crossed the room and shook Boone’s hand.
“Garrett.”
No small talk.
Just two deputy marshals who’d worked together long enough to skip everything in between.
Davis looked past Boone.
“Tauber. Bain.”
Axel nodded once.
“Good to see you again,” Whip said.
“You too.”
His gaze shifted to Beth.
“Beth.”
“Good to see you, sir.” She smiled.
Then his attention moved to Knox.
“You’re Granger.”
Knox straightened a little.
“Yes, sir.”
“I’ve heard good things.”
