“That’s enough, Wayne,” Logan calmly demands. He redirects his attention back to the alpha across from him. “And you still believe so. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have brought your wolves. This isn’t about a mating ceremony, is it?” It wasn’t a question but an accusation.

“In part, yes. I have reason to believe that Dillon will make an appearance tonight.”

Logan crosses his arms. “And where would you get this information?”

“Because I know my former beta. I watched him grow. I watched him become a man, and I watched him and his obsession with my daughter fester. He won’t let this lie. And I have it on good authority that he has a friend on the inside.”

Logan works to keep his wolf’s abrupt anger in check at what Lee is saying. A spy? One of his own people – a spy? “And how would you know this?”

“Some of my wolves go into the city on occasion. They’re not supposed to, but when they found Dillon at a bar and had a drink with him, they came and told me. In a drunken stupor, Dillon told them he had friends in your pack. And before you ask, he wouldn’t say who. Just that someone in your pack isn’t happy with the alphas.”

Logan immediately thinks of one person. The thought angers Logan further, but despite it, he keeps his cool. It wouldn’t do to act irrationally. This has to be carefully thought out. And besides, Logan could be wrong in his assumptions. “So, what do you propose?”

Lee shrugs. “That we wait for Dillon. He’ll come to challenge you. For your position, for your woman. For my daughter.”

“But the mating is already complete,” Wayne interrupts. “There’s nothing he can do.”

Lee looks over his shoulder at him. “That won’t stop him. I don’t think you understand his level of obsession.”

Logan can only imagine. “So we put the ceremony on hold.” The thought of telling Val isn’t a pleasant one.

“No.” Lee holds up a finger. “Let it continue. Let him come onto the land.”

“You want him to be challenged on his mating ceremony day?” Wayne asks incredulously. “That’ll piss Eme right off.”

Logan looks at Wayne. “It may make her angry, but if we allow this to happen, we can also find out who his ‘friends’ are.”

“Do we tell her?” Wayne asks.

“Absolutely not,” both Lee and Logan say.

“You’re really going to do this?” Wayne questions after studying his alpha.

“It’s the perfect opportunity,” Lee answers.

“And I might have an idea of who’s betrayed us,” Logan mumbles. “They had the perfect opportunity to do so. They have a motive.” He growls the last word.
