He closes his eyes to the touch. “What do you want me to say?”
“Anything.”
“I failed him, Eme. I failed that kid.”
She scoots her stool closer to him and rests her head on his shoulder. “You didn’t know.”
“I assumed. I should have questioned him when I assumed. I could have mentioned it to Viola and Jim, but I did none of those things.”
Sighing, she lifts her head and kisses his earlobe. “You didn’t, and you need to lay it to rest. What is done is done, and now we need to figure out how to keep it out of the pack.” She kisses him softly again, this time on the cheek. He leans into it and groans at the sensitive touch.
“Okay?” she prompts when he says nothing.
“Mm,” he mumbles. He turns his head until their lips are barely touching. “You should stop kissing me like that unless you want something to happen.”
Her tongue darts out to wet her bottom lip. Their breaths mingle, filling her with his scent. “And what if I want something to happen?”
For a moment, his eyes flash with hunger, and in the next moment, they soften. He presses his lips to hers, and for a few fleeting seconds, they hold the kiss. She’s the first to open her mouth, and he responds immediately, deepening the kiss into something more, something so pleasurable her toes curl.
Their tongues twine together, and their breaths come faster with each passing second. Eme moans into his mouth when he slides a hand into her hair and tips her head back. This feels right. It feels good, and she loses herself in him.
Images of their coupling surface in her head. Holding the kiss, she slides off her chair and crawls into his lap, facing him. He lashes forward and bites her lip then smooths the skin with a kiss. His hair runs through her fingers as she tips his head back, deepening the kiss once more. She can feel his cock harden underneath her, feel it press against her most sensitive area.
“I want you,” she whispers against him.
He growls in response, wraps his hands around her ass, and lifts her from his lap. He stands, lifts her again, and lays her on the island. He peers down at her, his lips swollen from their kiss.
For a moment, they just stare at one another, breaths heaving. And then he crawls on the island with her. His body presses against hers, and their lips join one more time.
Slowly, his hand slides down her side, to her hip, to her thigh. Everywhere he touches, a fire lights. When his hand finds her thigh, he lifts it and fits himself directly between her legs.
She moans when he rocks against her jeans. He feels so good she can’t help the sounds that come out of her mouth.
And then, all of a sudden, he stops.
She opens her eyes to peer into his questioningly. Sighing, he rests his forehead against hers and then lets go of her thigh.
“What’s wrong?” Is it her? Did she do something wrong?
“I can’t.”
She props herself on her elbows. “Why not?”
“You may want me, Emeline, but it’s not enough. I want more before I give you more.” He climbs off of her and slides off the counter.
“More of what?” she asks, sitting up.
“I want you to love me. Or, at least, have feelings for me,” he answers, stepping away from her.
Does he think she doesn’t? She had thought the kiss in the street had confirmed that, but perhaps he needs a verbal confession?
She hops off the counter and closes the distance between them. “But I-” She doesn’t get to tell him what he wants to hear, what she’s been feeling, because the front door opens.
“Logan!” A familiar voice shouts.
Eme frowns. “Daddy?”
