Callie’s gaze snapped to Molly’s as Molly set the fully decorated cake on the prep counter. “I was just—I think I’m finished with the front here.”

Molly sent her a knowing smile. “That looks great. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Callie studied the intricate three-tier masterpiece Molly had created—an ornate sixteen on the second tier, fun, funky pink-and-black stripes on the top, and a marzipan loopy bow topper that was a work of art. “You have a gift.”

Molly let loose a small laugh as she secured the cake in a large white box. “Not anything like yours.”

Callie felt the jolt of surprise and evaded Molly’s gaze. “I didn’t—I didn’t know you knew who I am.”

Molly’s left eyebrow winged up. “I live on an island, not under a rock. I recognized you as soon as I saw you outside with Nate yesterday morning.”

“Oh. You didn’t mention anything so I just figured…”

“Why would I?” She picked up a roll of packing tape. “Several people know. It’s been running through the grapevine since Anna Beckle opened her big mouth after seeing you dancing with Nate last night. Some of them were in here today.”

Callie’s stomach shuddered with a new sense of unease. “Oh.”

“People around here don’t care much about that stuff. Celebrities come to the island from time to time. We tend to leave you guys alone so you’ll come back.”

Callie shook her head. “I’m not a celebrity.”

Molly’s eyebrow winged up again. “You were on Jimmy Fallon.”

Callie winced. “I just—my agent…” To her own amazement, she smiled when Molly did. She rarely found anything about fame amusing.

“You’re entitled to your privacy.”

“Thank you.”

“Except for where my brother’s concerned. What’s going on with you two?”

“We’re just—I don’t know.” She shrugged. “Nothing.”

Molly smiled again.

Callie felt her cheeks pink up. “Nate’s easy to be around. He’s a good guy.”

Molly got to work on taping the box shut. “The best I know.”

“He’s—I feel—Have you ever met someone and had an instant connection—like you’ve known them for years?”

Molly stopped what she was doing and narrowed her eyes as she contemplated. “Sort of.”

“I guess it’s like that.”

“Huh.”

“He was fixing the sink in the cottage when I arrived last week. There’s something about him that made me immediately comfortable.”

Molly set the tape back down. “That’s Nate.”

“But I think we’re just having fun.” Although it seemed like more than that. “I think,” she repeated and dashed at the loose hairs that had fallen from her ponytail.

A slow grin spread across Molly’s face—so much like her brother’s. “You’ve got a thing for him.”

“Jeez.” She chuckled uncomfortably. “You know how to put a girl on the spot.” Although she didn’t mind much. She didn’t have girlfriends to talk with. Her career kept her on planes and in her studio, so this was nice.

Molly laughed. “Nate deserves some fun. He’s so busy taking care of everyone else, he forgets to take care of himself. He makes his job look easy but it’s not.” Molly looked toward the window. “Speaking of.”
