Tobin’s shoulders did a fast roll. “I do enjoy a nice Rolex.”

“I know that you do.”

Tobin studied Logan in silence a moment, then noted, “It was a big night, my friend. You acquired a new casino, you picked up a new villa—I’m all fine with making sure the paperwork is handled on those, no problem, but then you go and nearly die?” He advanced toward Logan’s desk. “Your security guards were useless. They are supposed to be keeping you safe. You could have died. If she…” A dramatic wave toward Charlotte. “If she hadn’t been there, that second bullet could have killed you! I saw the footage. She tackled you at just the right time. Otherwise, you could have been the one bleeding out in the alley when all the dust settled, not that prick Morris.” A huff of breath. “You know what you need to do?” Tobin demanded.

She found herself creeping a little closer to Logan’s desk. Morris had said that second shot had been meant for her, so Charlotte wasn’t exactly sure that her big body slam into Logan had saved her fake boss.

Another dramatic wave from Tobin toward her. “You need to give this woman a raise. Double her salary. Make her your bodyguard and not those idiots who were running in your wake.”

“Tell me what you really think,” Logan murmured.

Tobin did. “First of all, your security team should have stopped you from taking those late-night runs ages ago. People learn your routine from shit like that. That shit makes you vulnerable. You need to be unpredictable because you have a million enemies out there who would love to have the honor of saying they offed you. I personally don’t want that to happen because I like my salary and my Rolexes and you are—”

“Done,” Logan cut in to say.

Tobin did a double take. “Done…with what?”

“You convinced me. I’ll double her salary.” He sent Charlotte a wolfish grin. “I think that’s a great idea.”

He’s technically not paying me anything. So double is just extra nothing.

“I also like your other suggestion,” Logan mused with far too much satisfaction in his tone. “From here on out, Charlotte will be my personal bodyguard. Of course, that means she’ll have to move into my suite. She’ll have to share a room with me wherever I go, she’ll have to be at my side, twenty-four, seven and she—”

“Done,” Charlotte cut in to say. My turn. Logan wasn’t the only one who could cut in dramatically.

Logan blinked. His head turned. His gaze collided with hers.

She sent him a wolfish smile. What? Had he thought she’d argue? No way. This new setup would work way better for her. As his personal bodyguard, she’d have a reason to be close to him, to move into his suite, and people wouldn’t say it was because—

“I’m fucking her,” Logan announced.

She was pretty sure her jaw almost hit the floor.

“Figured as much,” Tobin replied, not missing a beat.

Logan shifted his gaze back to his lawyer. “That’s why she was so desperate to save me tonight. She’s hopelessly in love with me. Happens, you know. I’m irresistible that way.”

She considered attacking the man.

“Sure. Hopelessly so. Why not?” Tobin rolled with it.

How is he rolling with it? Do women routinely fall hopelessly in love with Logan? Also, was that jealousy stirring in her gut? It had better not be and yet, Charlotte strongly suspected that it was.

Problematic.

“I heard she was on the table tonight,” Tobin added.

She finally snapped her jaw closed. He is talking about the bet that involved me. The bet. Tobin doesn’t mean that he heard Logan actually had me on the table during our make-out session. He can’t mean that.

Well, he could mean that, if Freya had told him what she’d seen.

“You don’t usually go in so hard and take villas and casinos in such a flashy manner. Those kind of stakes will scare others away from your private games. Thought you must have been pretty pissed in order to leave those guys with nothing.” Tobin nodded. “But now it all makes sense. The utter destruction of Ares and Pierre at your game was because you’re fucking your PA, and they wanted to take something that you viewed as yours.”

“My name is Charlotte,” she enunciated clearly. “And I don’t belong to Logan. I can work for the man and not belong to him. See, those are two distinct things.”

Tobin yanked at the already loose tie around his neck. He slanted a stare her way. “I read your background report. Harvard grad. MBA. Experience at all the right firms. That resume of yours was filled with some lovely lies.”

Logan’s leather chair squeaked.
